Since leaving ICU, my journey has been less than straightforward.
They discovered I had a type of leukaemia/lymphoma ( it sits in the blood & lymph system). It’s a strange cancer because they don’t always rush to treat it straight away. If it hasn’t reached a critical level, if you’re not symptomatic etc etc, treating it too early doesn’t improve outcome and just buggers up your life ( with treatment) when you feel fine, conversely, treating it too late is an issue too.
Anyway, since ICU, I’ve had numerous vasovagal seizures, where I often stop breathing - 1st one was 3 days after discharge - my wife found me fitting lying across & over a full bath of water, she dragged me onto the floor, only for me to stop breathing. She felt helpless, distraught & out of her depth. I learnt from the physios that I was still seeing at hospital, what I needed to do if I felt a vasovagal coming on, get on floor, lie on back & stick legs in air. Problem solved - except - at that stage I couldn’t get on floor or off floor with no core muscles 🤣🤣.
Earlier this summer, I had another larger seizure very early morning - my beautiful wife was still asleep, I’d come downstairs to ease the tremendous cramping I had in my legs. Sometime later, I stumbled into our bedroom covered in blood & confused, my wife got up so quickly she thought she was going to pass out, is phoning the ambulance, lying on the floor with ‘her’ legs in the air.
Anyway - we didn’t know what had happened, I had a huge gash in back of head, blood all over floor downstairs, again we were out of our depth. We downloaded, St John’s Ambulance first aid app. 😊 for peace of mind, after being rushed to hospital should anything like this happen again.
