5 week coma 5 years ago. Ever since I consistently sleep 14 hours per day. Heard of anything like that?
Anyone sleep 14 hrs per day post 5 week coma? - ICUsteps
Anyone sleep 14 hrs per day post 5 week coma?
Was it a head injury/trauma that brought you to ICU?
Ive heard of people sleeping loads after a brain injury/operation.
I had the reverse problem. When I woke, I didn’t sleep for 3 days solid to start. I have had periods of insomnia ever since and mostly only sleep 5hrs a night.
Hi, i am also the opposite, I struggle to get 4 hours sleep since discharge 11 weeks ago. I had 18 days in a coma for covid. Sleeping tablets have proved useless. Luara I have spoken to other people and this is normal with longer sleep patterns- your so lucky, I am jealous.
Sepsur are you feeling the lack of sleep is having a knock on effect or have you adapted to the new sleep pattern? I have adapted and now walk the dog at 4am and go to bed at 10pm but restless for the first few hours.
Yes. I was in a coma for over 5weeks, 5 yrs ago. At least 1 a week I would sleep for over that amount. Are you on an iron tablet?
Hi Laura. I am new to healthunlocked. I got 5 replies initially incld. yours. Is it possible to respond to these 5 by typing just one message? Similar to Hotmail. Type one message, send to 5 different email addresses at once. If there is a place on healthunlocked that already states how to do that just point me to that site and save yourself the effort. Thank you.
.
Wow, 5 weeks 5 years ago. And 14+ hours at least once a week. Very similar. But I have you beat.
I'm retired now. Ever since the coma. I wanted to travel but why spend all that money to fly to Europe and just sleep for 14+ hours? It may come down to that. It might be the best I can do. And it may be a nice change from being stuck around here (Seattle) and having the stupid virus confining me.
14+ hours = generally 12 hours plus 2 hours nap in late afternoon. Very consistent. I find it surprising it is so consistent. My CPAP machine measures avg. for past day, week, month, 6 months, or year period. Always 14 + hours. Just a bit over 14 hours.
I'm tired of this 14+ hour sleeping. Docs don't help me. I guess I'll have to figure it out myself. 40 years ago I walked out of U of Wash. School of Medicine here in Seattle after 3 full years. I'm am an AAD, an Almost a Doctor. I can read and talk medicine which has been very useful.
I think the ER docs kept me under too long. Very difficult to get a licensed practitioner to comment on my case. Much of it is a liability issue. But I just located someone who is an expert on comas and ER visits and will read my file and advise me for a fee. Don't know how much yet. I won't give out his name until I know if he is any good or not. Maybe he can refer me to someone else.
I don't want to have to type this message 5 times to send it to all 5 people what wrote me. And I hope it cannot get forwarded.
That's enough for now. Head is tiring.
BTW I am 66 but look way younger. The coma didn't age my appearance which is surprising. My biological age is about 27, verified by TeloYears.
Most nights I sleep around 9-10 hours and struggle to waken each morning. My psychologist said it was due to ICU (I had Necrotizing Fasciitis / flesh eating disease) and to have a couple of naps throughout the day (easier said than done with 2 children) but I noticed pain & fatigue seemed worse a few months ago. Doctors ran some tests and discovered I had Haemochromotosis (iron overload) which explains the increased pain & fatigue.
My dad had lots of health issues and some caused by negligence but solicitors & GP said no doctor would ever confirm that another doctor had made a mistake. Its very sad especially when its life & death.
I don't know why it took so long to think of this but the Univ. of Washington (Seattle USA) would have access to any huge medical data bank if such a thing exists outside of the Net. Or there may be a way to get into any such huge medical data base via the Net.
I have an appt. with my endocrinologist tomorrow regarding my diabetes. I think some of the effects of the diabetes are reversing. I would like him to confirm. Then I want to know if such a reversal is common. I'm hoping for him to say it is uncommon or even unheard of. That would be cool.
I was on the vent for 12 days back in March. When I first woke up I stayed awake for days and barely slept the first few weeks afterwards. Now I wanna sleep like a teenager lol. I sleep like 10-15hrs a day and it’s nothing like how I was beforehand. My body is so stiff and sore.
