Covid: back at square one

So apparently the nurse was a little bit wrong about her findings. We spoke with two doctors (definitely not calling the nurse ever again) and they told us she still not responding to anything except moving her eyes... 😔

The neurologist said the covid could have affected a neuron or something. It could possibly regenerate, eventually... Still they said it's not the right moment for a CT! When will it be?!

Her kidneys are not in the great shape yet but they nephrologist team said they will not perform dialysis right now because her potassium levels looks good (urea is high).

Waiting game is back... 17 days since sedation was stopped.

Atleast she is still stable?

They said so. She breath on her own and is out of the ICU. Just the kidneys are not great. She is tube fed.

Oh gosh that's awful because we hang on to any hope there is. Yes it's such a waiting game and it always changes. The good thing is that they've said that it could possibly regenerate and I know from the experience with my husband that they wouldn't do a scan until they knew it wouldn't set him backwards. Your mums body will using all it's energy trying to heal. It's so hard waiting, I really feel for you and am sending you all my best wishes. xxxx

It kills me the fact that they don't let us see her neither allow us to video call 🤧🤧🤧

It would make a difference I truly believe.

Yes i'm not suprised. Will they not at least send you a picture of her? Just to see her would be a comfort, although they may be worried that it would upset you even more. xx

I would be very upset indeed, I wanna keep a good image of her in my memory. I just wish she could see us to trigger something in her brain... 🤧

I have now been told we can drop photographs in help him , we did video call him the other day and he looked so poorly , we just want him to hear our voices .

Would they allow you to record your messages on an audioclip and play it to her?

I don't think so. There are some hospitals doing video calls in my country but they are using donated iPads and mobiles. I don't think the doctors would take the risk to use their own mobiles to let patients speak with the families. I guess they are afraid of contamination.

Are you in the UK ? We had a video from a tablet which had been purchased for ITU, My husband has been moved to another ward and the tablet isn't available, so the wonderful nurses found his phone and charged it for me . Could you drop his phone off to him ?

Not in UK. They are not really being helpful regarding this video call thing. I can only pray mom gets better soon so we can take care of her at home 🤧

I am also in the uk and the hospital my dads in had some iPads donated , we had a zoom call Friday with my dad. Very emotional as he looked so unwell and unable to communicate back he faces us a thumbs up and had tears running down his face.

He seems to have go backwards since the call and the delirium worse , upsets me thinking he might feel abandoned by us 😢

Speaking with the family makes delirium better. He will progress more with the time... 🙏

My husband took 31 days to wake up after sedation was stopped. He began with moving his eyes, then blinking. They told me he wouldn't wake up? He has been awake for three weeks and cognitively he is all there.
