My partner had a heart attack and cardiac arrest on Monday. Thankfully he is now off sedation and morphine but he is totally delusional and is unable to keep still. Is this normal after being sedated for 5 days?

A little worried 😐
I was completely agitated and offensive when I came off sedation, very rude to my husband and my friends, I swore a lot. What may help you understand this is that your partner may well be in the midst of extreme nightmares and finding it difficult to distinguish reality from the dreams. It will pass eventually but will take time for him to understand he is now ok and not to panic.
Prayers for you

Hi Jackyk
Believe me it's quite normal, some of the things we see as patients are far removed from the real world, it's almost as if you are in a virtual world which for me personally was at times terrifying and other times just plain bizarre and I had 53 days of it, unfortunately it's one of the side effects of all the drugs and your partner will probably will have no recollection of that missing time, as the drugs where off he will return to normal.

Yes this is totally normal. My mom was under for 5 days and she was the same way for about 3 days and slowly started coming around after a week. I was scared but it is a normal process. Just give him time and he will come around. Just keep talking to him try to work with his memory etc. Best of luck to you and it gets better!!!!
Hi Jackyk yes it is normal because of all the medication that's been put in your body you can get very restless and your mind is all over the place as your body starts to get rid of all the drugs you start to get back to normal . I know my family said when they started to reduce the drugs I was blethering a lot of rubbish saying I was going back to work tomorrow and I would have to phone the shop to get my shifts. Just give him time he has been through a lot xx take care xxx
Thanks for your replies and support. He is a little better today but still confused but the hospital said it's probably from the lack of oxygen when he had the cardiac arrest, so it's just a waiting game now.
Thanks. Saw the video and does give me some insight.
