Hi,

I've had similar amongst my myriad of symptoms over the last 3 years or so, my symptoms tend to cycle, so I never know whats up next, but I've had 2 episodes of it during that time.

When it occurs I have real trouble swallowing food, and even clearing my throat is a challenge, as for what causes it or how to cure it, I havent a clue I'm afraid, but it has always came and gone within a month or so to be replaced by yet another symptom.

Hope you get to the root of the problem,

Andy

Hi there

I have had this problem at night for many years, I had checks for my throat, they thought it might be acid reflux, now you have me wondering?! - I wake at night choking and unable to breathe or swallow, and more of late, struggle to swallow, which I find quite scary! I tried, Losec for the reflux, which in part helped but not totally.

Hope you can sort it

When I had one of my strokes I could not swallow and was told this was because the stroke I had effected my left side if it had been the right side I would of had trouble talking. Ever since If my INR goes low I have trouble swallowing I ensure theres someone with me when I eat and always have water with my meal. I try not to panic because this makes it worse.

Post nasal drip is a symptom of a hyper aroused autonomic system which is centred in the CNS. If this runs down the back of your throat it can cause you to wake at night with the feeling of choking.

I also get this from time to time.

Also... undiagnosed thyroid problems can cause this, with autoimune disease profile. Mary F x

Hi there

I frequently have the feeling that my throat is collapsing - it's a common MS symptom apparantly. It happens mostly at night but not exclusively so will be interested by your results.

Oh my god!! these sites never stop surprising me!!!

I sometimes wake up feeling like there is something lodged in my throat! I end up coughing, sweating & often banging on the bedroom floor.....& this is apparently whilst still asleep!! I feel like I'm just about to die as I cant breathe....& then I wake up!!

It is really scary :( sometimes I do it when I'm in bed alone, with hubby next to me, on hols, even they have found me walking about at the top of the stairs doing it....still unaware its not real/still mostly asleep, my poor son has seen me doing this & he was so worried :(

Been trying to get to the bottom of it...but I feel they are not taking me seriously as it still hasn't been questioned or had any advive or help with it?!
