Paying for prescriptions

Hi quick question about being on so many meds. How does everyone pay for them as I'm finding it really expensive. I'm on warfarin for life and I obviously need them along with other things. Is there a cheaper way of paying for them??

You can buy a season ticket for prescriptions, if you talk to your doctor/pharmacist - a one of payment which last over the year and works out cheaper if you are having to buy a lot, I would tot it up for the month how many items and then compare against the season ticket:

As mary says, you can buy a PPC (Prescription Pre-pament Certificate), online. You can buy them for 3 months or 12 months and, if the latter, you can pay monthly by direct debit; so it will cost just over £10 per month.

I get to 60 in June and I then get FREE prescriptions, Yippppeeeee. lol.

Haha Dave, my father-in-law turns 80 this year and is looking forward to spending the extra 25p per week he'll receive (not all at once of course!). Your free prescription will be a big help, I'm sure.

If your father in law lives on his own at aged 80 he will be able to claim attendance allowance for being on his own it's £ 40 per week x

When a decision is made in terms of my long term meds then I may give this a go but at the moment, I'm only paying for one prescription every 30 days.

Charli84, are you on thyroxine? If so, for some bizarre reason, that qualifies you for free prescriptions. If you're not on thyroxine, mad as this may sound, it might be worth getting your thyroid checked and 'hope' you need supplementation - cos then you'd get free prescriptions. Bonkers, but, hey, you have to do what you have to do.....

Ps my dad is on thyroxine, and received free prescriptions prior to the change here. It's all to do with your body needs this to keep it ticking over ( naturally the body is lacking, therefore this drug supplements it) but warfarin, and any other long term drug keeps as alive!! ..I cannot figure it out either!

Yeah that's stupid. If I don't take warfarin ill die so how do they work this out? What a stupid system

hi charlie. im on thyrocin as i had cancer. i got a form from docters .now i have an n.h.s card i carry. ask at ur docters. . life illness meds should be free!. stacey
