Hi Daisy are you on Heparin as well as warfarin, my ideal inr is about 3.5

I can tell if its too high I get light headed, when its low I actually feel warm but thick headed

Don't know if anyone else feels like this

I try and eat the same amount of green veg every day, but it doesn't always work. Infections too much wine ect interferes with my INR

Mine fluctuates too and I get all sorts of symptoms when it dips below 3.0.

My range is 3.0 to 3.5 and its a struggle getting the drs to let me get near 3.5 .... they get so worried if it gets near that or above. They would prefer me below 3.0 but I struggle to function below 3.0. Every time I've had a turn and ended up in ER my INR was below 3.0.

I eat the same things week in and week out so its not diet with me. "Just the nature of the beast" my Dr says

Hi Daisy, I am on 15mg of warfarin daily and have been for about 3 months now, the hospital can't understand but my INR fluctuates from 1.8 to 5.6, my levels should be 3.5 - 4.5, I can also tell when they are right, if the level falls below 3.5, I suffer with terrible migraines. I am constantly tired, but I think this is also normal. Unfortunately we have to trust our bodies and the doctors.

Good luck and take care x x

Hi Daisy,

I am on 18mg of Warfarin and they 'try' to keep my INR between 3 to 4. However, it can stay in the range for weeks and then suddenly go haywire. Different foods can affect you INR and as Karen says above, green veg are one food group. Other factors such as infections or antibiotics can have an affect also.

Having said that I keep to, more or less, the same diet all the time but my INR can still fluctuate wildly at times. Personally I think that the weather and your state of mind (Whether you are Happy or Sad etc.) can also have an effect.

You say that you get 'fuzzy' if you are over 4 and under 3.5, do I therefore take it that you self test ?

thank you for replying I am on heparin should my inr levels drop below 3. I do self test which was recommended and I find it useful, I tend to test before having a test at hospital to make sure that it is the same. When I fall below 3.5 I feel so fuzzy and thick in my head with a warm feeling and my brain feels tight and I get tired. The same thing happens when my Inr is over 3.5 the same feelings with nosebleeds. I am under stress at the mo with daughter and even my hepatologist said was I under stress, however, I have had these feelings for a couple of years. Oh yes i get awfully cold on one side goosebumps etc. Apparently I am a difficult case!!!

hi my inr has been always been low my range is 2-3 but for the few months its gone haywire i had to be admitted 2 wks ago because it was 14.1 and had to have vit k but i have a reaction to it but they still have to give it me because of the risk of bleeding but they havent a clue why its going to low to high ive not had any new medication or illness .

I was diagnosed 7 years ago with Factor V Leiden and lupus anticoagulant. My original hematologist that was working in a hospital was having trouble figuring out my INR but seemed to get it right by having it worked on asap in the hospital lab. When I switched after 3 years to a new hematologist we tried didfferent methods to get my inr accurate, including instant read machines but they all came up inaccurate. Eventually a PTT test was the way he was able to find an accurate reading and we've been using it ever since. Maybe down the line we might switch to anther medication that doesn't need to be checked by INR but in the meantime I subscribe to the " if it ain't broke, don't fix it" motto :)

My  warfarin  is  5.6  done  via   pin  prick  machine  local  clinic  so  went  to  local  hospital  they did normal  blood  test  level  is   high  need  to  go back  to  hospital   tommorow  they  are  borrowing  machine from   local  clinic  because my  blood  is  hard  to  get  severe thrombosis if  levels  are still  high then  i  dont  know  more so  because i  have  a  metalic   valve   ie  the Aorta  so  my  levels  must  be    pricise

the  local  hospital  does not  want  to  spend  the money to  get  the  pin  prick  machine because  it costs  so  much  plus  it  the high end  machine

not  one that  a patient  uses because of   me  having  a metalic  valve

so Im  in a bit of a  predictament-  the  levels   checked  must be    spot  on
