Does anyone know of any natural remedies which could benefit to HS's patients? I asked my rheumatologist once and he almost laughed at me!! Obviously conventional medicine doesn't agree with natural most of the time...but....I'm still hopeful....

Alternative medicine
Hi Cala
I think many doctors are cautious of alternative medicines as there are no case studies for them to refer to and in this current age of austerity funding is scarce and not often available to research alternative medicine and the more well known conditions let alone a condition that very few people have even heard of. I am sorry your doctor wasn't more open minded. A good balanced diet, low caffeine (ironic as that is the only thing that can keep me functioning some times), and a good dose of the omega oils and plenty of iron rich food can only be good for you. I find that regular massage helps but other than that I wouldn't be tempted to try anything now that I am on conventional treatment. Before diagnosis I tried every alternative therapy you can imagine from accupuncture to regression to reflexology to homeopathy etc but I don't think it's wise to mix conventional and alternative unless you have practioners who are working together and communicating with each other.
Try asking your GP for a referral to the Homeopathic hospital, he can only say no!
Let me know how you get on, good luck, Sharon x
Hi cala
sorry to hear your Dr not helpful on this. Unfortunately not enough is known about the effects of alternative therapies with some of the meds we have to take. As Sharon says there is just not the funding. I'm considering massage, reflexology etc, but not want to risk reactions with herbal remedies etc, I'm very allergic anyway so is a no for me. Sharon's suggestion of referral to homeopathic hospital is a great idea. I think there one in Glasgow, but not sure on others.
Hope you feelin ok today, take care, gentle hugs Jessielou xxxxxx
Hi
I wrote about a n alternative treatment in one of my blogs. I have cranio sacral therapy every so often (when I can afford it etc) and it has really helped me. One of the key benefits for me was realising that I had to forgive me body - I am aware that this sounds a little out there but it has helped me and I would recommend it - I did reference a London clinic that does cut price sessions too, they are great. On the supplements side I agree with the others, I have done part of a horse whispering diploma and hearing the efects of herbs (weeds) found in the hedgerow really reminded me how potent natural herbs etc can be. That said I find that Hawthorn or Lemon Balm tea are brillinat for calming and hydrating - it is said that hawthorn is good for your heart, in terms of your pressure and in the more emotional state. Just pour over boiling water and leave a cover on to trap all the essential aromas and stuff. But listen to yourself if you feel peculiar then don't do it again...? I have considered going to see a herbalist person as I met one at a fair recently who said that they can detail efects and know about many clashes with medication but I am always concerned about unknown effects!
Let us know how you get on and if you have any lucky elsewhere - always interested in this sort of thing.
Take care
Tx
Some herbal react with warfarin but mint tea and reflexology help me
