Having had a result of 4.5 last week (range 3 -4) I went from 10 mg to having a few days of 9 mg. Todays INR result though was 5.4 !!! Really surprised as I'd expected high 3!!! Don't know why it went so high either!!

Weird isn't it!!

Hi Jane

I think a lot of us have ssame problem with inr being all over the place. Mine can be 1.9 up to 4.8 in a few days. I'm usually pretty good now at telling whether its high or low. First few times I walked into nurses office for test and said its too low or too high (usually too low :-( !!). My inr nurse said you can't possibly know that. Now when I walk in she knows whether its high or low, I've done loads of searching and from what I can gather those naughty antibodies are responsible.

My Gp learning to leave the warfarin dose alone and see if it settles. As altering dose starts months of trying to get it stable. I feel at my best about 3.8, but have to settle for 3, at the moment thats the top of my range :-( .

So yes totally weird hon, thats us hughies. :-)

Take care gentle hugs love Sheena xxxxx :-) :-) :-)

Yes Jet I've been on warfarin for 10 years. Like Sheena I can usually tell if its too high or too low and was surprised that it was so different to what I expected this time. I dont like to change the dose too much, if at all, and luckily am allowed to manage my warfarin myself.

I've been off work, I'm a TA in a secondary school, for about 2 months now and still don't feel well enough to go back yet. The first few years I was on warfarin, my health seemed pretty good and 2007/8 was very good. But since the end of 2009 til now I'm getting a lot of illness and taking longer each time to recover. I seem to be off work more than I'm there, even working only 2 days a week! I'm 54 and am wondering whether I could retire early on health grounds. I also have hearing problems and wear hearing aids so working in a classroom is very difficult at times.

I seem to have strayed from my original blog about the INR!!

Oh well thats what this forum is all about isnt it - you can talk about anything and know that someone is always out there will give advise and encouragement !!!

Thanks fellow Hughies!!

Hi Jane.

I'm new to this Aps lark having only been diagnosed last summer and I, too, have had problems with Warfarin and trying to keep my INR between 3-4.

I had my blood check this morning and yes, its STILL 3.3 as it was a fortnight ago, having previously been all over the place. 8mg Warfarin daily made this happen.

I'm really convinced my diet has made a huge difference to the results and even though I've been watching my diet carefully, for the past few weeks I've almost completely cut out vit K rich foods, e.g. green leafy veg, avocado, humus, olive oil, etc. and I believe this has kept my INR steady but time will tell if the consistent results continue.

Unfortunately, I've got another cold (had one about a month ago) and find it takes ages for me to get back to my normal self.

Take care and be kind to yourself.

Bebe

I was in the hospital last week because I was hurting trying to take a deep breath. Well, the nurse "forgot" to order my coumadin for me one day, so had to go without, and the next day my inr was 1.7!! My range is between 2-3. She told me to go home and take 10mg of coumadin and than bring it down and test two days later. Well, if the nurse had of been doing her part, my inr would not have had such a dip. Hello......if we can manage ourselves for the most part, why do I need someone to dispense my meds? but I have also heard that Pradaxa is better than coumadin/warfarin??? Anyone take this?
