Can food poisoning or infections cause high inrs? My local doctor said he could not understand why my INR had risen to 5.6. Having been ill over the last couple of days, just wondering if this has any impact.

Thank you - just travelled from London and ate prawn sandwiches via train and within half an hour very bad, had to tolerate this for 4 hours until got to destination.

Yes, any illness can affect INR.

If you have diarrhoea it shoot out all the vitamin k which is normally resident in your guts, but it also shoots out any medication you have taken! So it could go either way really.

Also when unwell some people take paracetamol etc which can affect INR.

However I have had many fingerprick tests of over 5 which came back at over 3 on venous sample, so if it is high insist on a venous sample.
