hi same old story Hydroxychloroquine zentiva , my pharmacy say they can’t get hold of them, has anyone else mananged to get them in the uk

Hi, I had a problem 2 mths ago, took a couple of weeks to get them, my last script in June was absolutely fine. Think it's just a timing thing this time? I still get the comment from the pharmacy 'it's because you want the particular brand'. 'They are more expensive you know' My chemist is Boots.I also a few years ago demanded to have 3 mths supply so I didn't have issues when they go out of stock - the doctor's don't like to do this but stops me panicking when this happens.

thank you for your reply, I have got this weeks left and that’s all, the pharmacist says phone during the week, I am frightened to go without them, I start to get really clumsy and fall a lot, as the gerneric ones don’t work and make me feel really ill, not sure wether I will take them or not, will wait and see what happens mid week, will ask about getting more next time, that’s a really good idea thanks again

Phone the pharmacist daily, they try everyday but you don't want the risk of them forgetting. You could also ring round other pharmacies to see if they can get you any. Crossing my fingers for you xx

When I had issues getting one of my epilepsy drugs the supermarket pharmacist advised ringing around the smaller independents. The smalls have the freedom to try a range of wholesalers whereas the supermarket were linked to one at the corporate level and the pharmacist couldn’t go anywhere else. Fingers crossed for you, I know how worrying this situation is.

There has been an issue with Zentiva as they have had a shortage of one of the components so there are shortages. They went out of stock completely for a while but are back now but it’s scattered as to where stocks are coming in. Zentiva say to get Pharmacists to call them and they will tell them where stocks are. Also there was supposed to be a scheme where by Boots where supposed to give priority to those with prescriptions marked with Zentiva only but it seems not to have got going yet. I’m afraid it’s a case of you doing the phoning around if your pharmacist is not going to do it.

never had a problem with mine.perhaps I am lucky.Always shifting brands but I get that with some of my other meds too

I tend to get different brands from my pharmacy. I currently have Zentiva but my next months supply is by Ipca Laboratories. I get occasional gastric problems but have recently started drugs for osteoporosis so put it down to that. Ayone heard of the Ipca brand?

A month ago I phoned local branch of Boots after my nominated pharmacy had started giving me IPCA although prescription is for Zentiva.GP then wrote paper prescription. They gave me two boxes of Zentiva.

Think it is really hit and miss.

Was amazed as all the other pharmacies locally could not get. Earlier Boots could not get either. Not sure if they can get next time. So much uncertainty.
