Hi all.I started taking Hydroxychloroquine 5 days ago.

Now I am very dizzy and have diarrhoea and for the last 2 nights I found I couldn't get to sleep even though I was so tired. My pains all over seemed worse too.

Should I persevere a bit longer or stop taking them. My Dr said to stop if I got side effects, but what is normal to get initially and what are dangerous?

Thanks for any advice

It seems the side effects can be varied and are different for everybody.

Are you taking a dose everyday? If so perhaps you could try just once per week, then increase to 2 per week and so on. The good effects can take at least 3 months to come so you don't need to rush. Just work slowly building up your tolerance of them.

As long as you don't have any of the side effects which require medical attention and can be found in the leaflet with your tablets, you should carry on longer.

Thank you for that jade.

It was very helpful. I am presently on one a day, but if I feel ill tomorrow I will try slowing the dose down. I take it in the evening, with my main meal. Is that the best time/

Thank you APsnotFab. I will definitely do that especially as I have something important I have to do on Saturday and can't be ill for that.

Hi, I think we share the important day on Saturday x

The above advice is good for you, as APS says no rush.

Most have side effects from this drug but they do seem to resolve and the benefits outweigh the initial problems.

Enjoy your weekend xxx

Thank you louise-a. I think I will try it at breakfast then as I find I can't sleep if I take it in the evening.

It's good to hear that it's all worthwhile in the end.

I'm glad to hear you have benefited from taking it.

Thanks again x
