Hello Walkingdead,

Welcome to the Grateful Dead! ( lol...depending on the INR value of the day- or aFX, etc etc...)

Yes, it can be a bumpy road... quite literally and metaphorically.

Inject slowly... I’m sure you know all the tricks.

A few injection sites will do this, and others will not. I still really don’t know the reasons why.

I can only state the obvious... “avoid that site until it clears up, rotate injection sites, lie still for a little bit as to not work the area, avoid hitting a muscle, if you run out of sites on abdomen, you can use sub c fat on back of upper arms and thighs ...”

Hoping others will come on with more knowledge than I have about this.

Lumps that last months and months along with horrific bruises are the downside of the anti Coag injectables. It can be quite unnerving at first. They will disappear in time but some of mine too about 6 months!

Once u know u have no need to worry it relaxes you. Best of luck x

Sounds like a hematoma (a collection of blood outside the blood vessel). Depending on the severity, they can take weeks to months for the body to reabsorb them, like a bruise. However, I have heard of some people having them drained. If it's concerning you, talk to your care team.

I got at least one big hematoma when I did Lovenox. There was a palm size bruise and a lump with slightly smaller circumference. The bruise lasted a week or two and the lump a few weeks longer. I may have had a smaller, briefer one or two, but they don't stick in my mind like the large one did. I've also had a few smaller hematomas from random bumps after I stopped Lovenox and was just on warfarin. A few times though, the origin of my hematonas was quite a mystery. As KellyinTexas said, make sure you avoid those the lumps when injecting Lovenox if you're still taking it.

I imagine they'll go away in time, but I do remember a case of a woman who had a traumatic injury to her breast, causing a large hematoma that even a year or more later was still present, though in a much smaller size. I believe her doctor indicated the might be permanent. Keep in mind that in that case it was a traumatic injury to soft tissue and a very large initial hematoma. So in the case of Lovenox injections, it's a much smaller injury from the needle and injection of the fluid, and therefore, a smaller trauma and smaller hematoma, so good chances they'll eventually reabsorb.

You might look into possible treatment like compresses or massage, but for me, I just waited for them to go away and tried to avoid aggravating the tissue.
