My natural path has prescribed progesterone for my osteoporosis. I am 62 and have APS and Lupus. Am I at increased risk of clots? Thank you

I gave been told not to take any hormone supplements but this was a few years ago and nothing has been said since. Medical information does change?

If I was you, I would discuss fully with your APS and Lupus specialist. Only they would know the current recommendations and your medical plan

I’ve discussed a lot of alternative options with my doctors. They claim to know nothing, that’s why I hired a natural path. Best care I’ve ever received. Should have hired one back 38 years ago and I wouldn’t be battling all these secondary diseases caused by pharmaceuticals. I.e. osteoperosis as one of many examples.

Hi I’ve had progesterone for years to manage endometriosis, 15mg a day. Haematologist consulted gynaecology and the decision was to stay on it for now. View was that it can cause clots, but much less of an issue than oestrogen and risk would be managed by warfarin. I would certainly talk to you APS Consultant before starting.

I was on locally compounded topical progesterone for a number of years. For me it was a wonder drug! Given my massive and debilitating (feinting on a monthly basis was my norm) that topical cream was definitely a figurative (and maybe literal) life-saver.

I was told the topical cream was far less likely to cause clotting events, and indeed, I had none for the 3-4 years I used it. I stopped at menopause, and have been fine ever since.

Note: the effective topical cream has such a short shelf life (and needs refrigeration) that no pharmaceutical company will make it as it would not yield a profit. Fortunately, there was a pharmacist near by who was licensed to make compounded pharmaceuticals.

Thank you. I didn’t know it had to be refrigerated. I have a telephone appointment with her next week. I’ll bring that up. Cheers!

Tablet form need not be kept in fridge -just locally compounded creams.
