I have had multiple strokes and TIAs. I am on Plavix to keep from clotting. I am getting ready to travel by Air Plane and am a little nervous. Do you think it would be alright to add aspirin for the days I am flying? On a positive note, I will be allowed to take my ESA (emotional support animal)--I have a small dog; to help with my nerves/anxiety.
Hi, you need advice from your main Hughes Sydrome/APS specialist, I would have thought it not a good idea to take two antiplatelets! If over four hours anticoagulation may be recommended plus of course full support stockings. You must seek the right medical advice. If you have had multiple strokes, are you not due for a medication review with a view to anticoagulation. Travel well, enjoy your trip. MaryF
Thank you for your suggestion. I will talk to my neurologist as There is not an APS specialist in my area. I am not due to see her again until September but I'm sure she will take my call as she has been with me since my first stroke many years ago now. The flights are under 4 hours each with a plane change in between.

Hi Laura, I am on Plavix and aspirin, and whenever I travel for more than 4 hours I follow the protocol Mary detailed previously ( 2 anticoagulants shots, one hour after and one hour before departing and landing, + compression stockings). But for this you need to consult beforehand a doctor to prescribe you which anticoagulant and stockings. I don't know where you are living but where I live both anticoagulants and some of the compression stocking are not sold without prescription.
