As always, thank you for posting these. And, as always, I enjoy Professor Hughes' mix of expertise, knowledge and humour - the Rio anecdote is a classic! (It reminds me of a story told by a friend, a now retired NHS consultant. Years ago, when he was a junior doc at a major hospital, a bloke ran into A&E wielding a gun and threatened to shoot. People took cover where they could - tables were overturned, etc - whilst someone brave managed to run off to phone the police. But someone even braver, Matron, marched up to the gunman and snapped tartly, 'We don't allow those in here!' grabbed his gun and shoved it in her pocket. The bloke ran out into the waiting arms of the police. Matron later found out that the gun was indeed loaded...)
