Hello my friends! I’m on Plavix and 100 mg of Lovenox! I don’t bleed when I get cut or give my shot! Does that mean my Blood too thick??? Do I need higher dosage of lovenox! Just curious! Not sure what to do!

Yes. You need to see a hematologist as soon as possible. Your platelets might be a wee bit too high. Have they discussed trying hydroxyurea ever for your PV?

Itching is common especially after a hot shower. We call this aquagenic pruritus. Usually means your bone marrow is a churning.

Oh wow I didn’t know that! It’s worse with hot baths! Yes I don’t even get Hematoma from shots!

Polycythemia with APS. I am so sorry. That’s a nightmare but you should at least get your counts and coagulation studies checked. Maybe your GP can order these? PV can cause increase in both red blood cells and platelets/clotting cells. Too many of either can def thicken the blood.

Not everyone gets bruising with lovenox. Some are allergic to it which causes bruising at the site and isn’t related to thinned blood. I wouldn’t worry too much but if you have a cut and don’t bleed at all then I’d have cause for concern. I know when things are bad - my cuts don’t bleed and clot near black immediately.

Hope this helps!

Deb i dont bleed either but do sometimes get hematomas/ bruising at the injection sites i take lovenox twice/day. I have had bruising when i fell but no bleeding outside of my body even when ive had a deep paper-like cut...nothing. I've never been concerned. My injections are weight-based: 1mg per pound of body weight every twelve hours sc. I dont know if this helps, but thats me!

Thanks for ur reply! I got baseball sized Hematoma from my shot had to go to ER! I told them to cut it out and it was infected! They listened to me! They closed door cuz said I’d scream! Told doc I never scream from pain! Not to worry! If I don’t have pain I don’t feel alive! Lmao... Extremely high tolerance to pain which is bad cuz I wait till last minyb4 going to hospital! Almost too late sometimes

I also have Polycythemia Vera which is a thick blood disease! That cud be acting up! My need to be Phlebotomized? I get blood test for that cuz I’m itchy all over my body! It goes with Polycythemia Vera as does APS

100mg shot per day! Someone said it goes by weight! I’m 143 pounds! Lost slot of weight too which was good! I kinda been staying at that weight! Don’t wana loose more cuz I’ll need a different leg again! I got 3 in 4 years! Don’t think insurance will cover it! How u doing with HEATWAVE IN TEXAS?

Lovenox for treatment is dosed 1.5 mg/kg once a day or 1 mg/kg twice a day. The latter is more effective IMO. Maybe you could also discuss this with your heme doctor. Could try 60 twice a day.

Yes. Exactly .

Deb,

I think you need to see about asking your Hematologist to look at dosing you every 12 hours at 1 mg per kg of body weight.

I had a hematologist ( who was not an aps Specialist) dose me at 1.5 mg/ kg and I clotted through. It has to do with peaks and troughs.

My APS specialty Hematologist is Hanna Cohen in London. She wanted to re try me Lovenox, but at 12 hours instead of the 24.

You are welcome. She said a little bit of clopidogrel can be added with that also. ( for arterial clotting history.)

I was advised 75 mg. It can be cut in half with a if necessary. It takes five days to titrations to level in system- just for knowledge benefit of others.

I was at 112 pounds when I saw her about one year ago. ( the week of prince Harry and Megan ‘s wedding.). I was put at 60 mg am and 60 mg pm. FYI. And also a statin, ( I was already in one.)

That was the dose for me-

I dont bleed either. Taking rivaroxabam and can cut myself but either dont bleed or clot straight away. Even when they take blood, they get prepared for bleeding and I only have a dot on the cotton wool. Did not think anything of it but after reading this will get it checked out with consultant. Think you should do the same. Better safe...

In hind sight.... when I was a kid, enjoying quite the free range childhood in WVa, I thought I was tougher then all my playmates because I rarely bled very much.

Yes I have it plus Polycythemia Vera! That’s why I take shots and lost my left leg! After loss of leg my hematologist diagnosed me after being under his care for another thick blood disease! Godspeed
