I read that warfarin can have interactions with heartburn/indigestion over the counter meds. Is this true? What do y’all take that helps?

Heartburn and Warfarin
Hi, most otc does react with warfarin. My doctor put me on Prilosec by prescription, even though, your doctor show know about whatever you choose in case they would need to re adjust your dosage of warfarin.
With any drugs you should check with your warfarin clinic, as they are best to advise.
I have a hiatus hernia untreatable by surgery and am on riatin (possibly misspelt) as apparently this does not interact with either the warfarin or my other drugs (although I don’t know how as it’s a proton pump inhibitor) according to my GP as the hydrochloroquinone I’m on affects my acid reflux!
I would occasionally have heartburn -- just occasionally! -- but since consulting with CC's Functional Medicine and taking pro and prebiotics (which are supposed to optimize one's gut biome) I have never since had any heartburn issues. You might discuss taking some probiotics, or do some research on healthy gut biome and what foods cultivate the most helpful biome. This is an area of medical research which is only just now being examined and accepted. Turns out, we rely on our gut biome to do so much for us -- and until recently we have been ignorant of all they do to support hormone and autoimmune balance.
I absolutely agree about gut health! I am on a good probiotic but I need to look into pre and talk to my dr. Thanks for the reminder about the pre
Hi, many people find that they have interactions with various added in drugs, also even innocent looking supplements, when on Wafarin, caution is always needed, it is best to check with your main consultant/prescriber and your GP. I hope they can advise you well. MaryF
My doctor put me on daily Prilosec because he was worried about stomach bleeding. As long as you are in communication with whoever is monitoring your INR, and you take something either very occasionally or every day, that should be OK.
No problem whatsoever with Losec over seven years. I've recently changed to Apixaban and the Losec is fine with that too. If you are suitable for Apixaban I'd advise changing to it, as it's just one tablet twice a day. No fluctuating doses and INR appointments.
I was on Eliquis for three years and my hematologists just changed me to Warfarin. I do miss the simplicity of it but have to do what he says. Thanks for the reply!
Any pill / medicine / supplement, even if over-the-counter should be run past your doctor first when on warfarin - unfortunately it interacts with almost everything. Most interactions are not a serious risk, but even then you may need alterations to INR monitoring (usually extra tests or changing test dates / intervals) to be safe, so it is important that doctors / warfarin clinic know about what you are taking.
I have personally been advised to use Gaviscon but was also prescribed a PPI (lansoprazole) at one point, I didn't get on with it at all and wouldn't touch it again, but that is just me - your reaction may vary, but always always check with your doctor first.
