What’s the cons on Riveroxoban

Hi all,

I’ve been on Riveroxoban now for about 2yrs ish. I’ve been ok on it but the last couple months I noticed my legs feeling heavy, my blood clots almost straight away.

I saw my Heamatologist last week and had my bloods taken. The results was not great. The results was sent to my GP and was told that the Riveroxoban is not doing its job and I’m to have another blood test to see what’s going on. Also (as my gp put it) my markers has been flagged?? It’s markers have doubled. I was asked if I drank alcohol, (the time I drank was at my dads wake 3yrs ago, I may have a Baileys now and again. So I have to have a scan if the markers are still up with my next blood test (Wednesday) then I have to wait 6days.

Has anyone had anything similar?

(With people that knows my problems, they have decided to operate in December on my elbow, (The Ulnar nerve is trapped). I’ve been waiting for almost 2yrs.

Thank you

Teanna

Hi, I know HollyHeski answered you a few months ago, re a similar question, however I enclose this for you, and I am really pleased that your Haematologist is looking into your symptoms and also in contact with your GP: Quite a few seem to be swapping back to Warfarin or other alternatives. bloodjournal.org/content/13...

Hi, Yes I am in the middle of finding out what exactly going on, but I had to fight for it. Plus when my blood results came back it’s not just the clotting it’s the Liver too. I just been for my 3rd blood test, and I’m going for the scan on my liver. It’s a bit worrying when they put you on all types of medication and now finding out that one of them could of started the problem.

All I get is “where sorry, but we know more now then we did then”, well it’s a bit late now.

So hopefully by the end of next week I shall have all the results back.

What the GPs don’t like is that when I ask or say something that’s been adviced on here (I don’t mention this site otherwise they will just say don’t listen to others).

Thank you all your help and understanding.

I took rivaroxaban for 2 years, along side daily aspirin and clopidigrel.

I knew the risks as I am triple positive and history of strokes and blood clots, I was monitored closely.

I've now switched back to clexane as my symptoms were worse on rivaroxaban.

You don't say what markers have been flagged? Presume liver, as you mentioned alcohol, its quite common for as to have raised results/non alcoholic fatty liver. Its good they are looking into further.

Thanks, I knew myself that there was something wrong, can the Riveroxoban have something to do with the Liver and what is a fatty Liver? I’ve had many DVTs, PEs and TIAs, and it’s scary especially having a DVT when I was on warfarin and my INR was 4.2. (It was stuck behind the knee ), that was the doctors words. I also suffer with thrombosis.

I’ve always had problems with blood thinners one way or another.

I would look things up myself but my phone is playing up.

So thank you again.

As for my daughter, they are still refusing to do another test for APS, it so worrying. (MARY)

'Non-Alcohol Related Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)?

This is the name given to a condition in which you have too much fat in your liver. There should be little or no fat in a healthy liver and for most people, carrying a small amount of fat in the liver causes no major problems.

Too much fat in your liver is caused by the build-up of fats called triglycerides. These are the most common fats in our bodies, they belong to a group of fatty, waxy substances called lipids, which your body needs for energy and growth. We get triglycerides from our diet. Foods high in fat and sugar contain high amounts of triglycerides. They can also be made in the liver from sugars and proteins.'

So when you read that and combine it with our sticky blood it makes sense to why we get nafld.

I was told many years ago it all relates to our lipids!! & was worried everyone would think I was a drinker! Like you only occasional.

I have read various reports regarding rivaroxaban and damage to the liver but Ive not posted any as I cant guarantee the source or the reviews?

I've not had any changes in my liver results whilst on rivaroxaban, actually seen improvement.

My cholesterol levels have also always been good 4.5, even when I had strokes, despite this my liver has always been swollen.

I wouldnt panic - wait and see the results of the scan and repeat bloods. You might find your high levels are actually your normal level.

You then need to talk through with your specialist that is prescribing you the rivaroxaban.

My GP told me that my liver had gone up a lot compared to my last test, and told me to get the blood test done ASAP. Then to double book an appointment to see him 6 days after.

I must admit, my downfall is lattes, which I’ve had to cut down as I was drinking them like water. I’ve only had 2 today compared to a couple of weeks ago, I could go through a packet (8 sachets) daily. Plus I treat myself 2 cakes per week. I’m not a big eater, my carer will do me something around 11am (she is great it’s always good healthy food) then I might have a bowl of cereal at 7pm. But weekends I hardly eat. I did see a dietian once because of my allergies but never had a follow up. The good thing is that my Cholestrial went down to 4.9.

I only found out last week that I had to eat when taking the Riveroxoban, and it was one of Dr Hannah Cohens team. So I have a Rice cake (nothing on it and healthy).

Thank you for making things clearer.

Just adding this into the mix, so many are told their thyroid levels are fine due to only the TSH being done, in terms of diagnosis:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

and this also: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Same as you, I've been on Rivaroxaban for about the same length of time and remember about 6 months in, the Haematologist added aspirin as anti platelet. I've been fine and I see him to have a blood test every 6 months to check LFT's and Kidney function. What dosage are on for Rivaroxaban?

Hi, I had my 2ndblood test as requested and made an appointment to see my GP 6dsys after, but only 2 days after I got a telephone call asking me for another blood test. This will be 3 tests in 3 weeks, the last one was done on Friday, so I have to go tomorrow for another. But this time they would not give me any information over the phone (they always have given the result before so why change now)??? It’s now worrying me.

Have you got an online account with your GP? This usually shows you your results.

I know some surgeries now have stopped telling patients results over the phone as the doctor is the best one to interpret the results.

I appreciate your going to worry, the thing here to remember your doctor is requesting these tests, so he is on your case, so whatever the results tomorrow, he can explain why you were called back for 3rd test and talk through with you a plan going forward. I see this as a positive rather than negative, all this could all be missed, with nobody looking at you.

Let us know how you get on tomm? x
