Hydroxychloroquine made so sick I had to stop confused why could I take it before & now I can’t

I had plaquenil compounded, pure hydroxychloroquine & rice flour. It made my muscles & nerves work better, but I had numbness & pins & needles in my arms & legs, severe pain over my left flank, blurred vision, & headache. After reading more about I stopped the medication. I am confused, Dr Schofield gave me 10 of the same thing & I had none of these symptoms. Why am I having problems with the ones I had compounded? I asked the pharmacist & really didn’t get a answer. Trying to get in touch with Dr. Schofield but unsuccessful so far. Anyone! Designer16

I’ll find out soon in oct and let you know. I am suspecting it’s diwn to mast cell issues. She gave you ones that did not activate them.

I hope you get the answer as soon as possible, do let us know what the doctor's opinion is. I can't take Plaquenil, in fact nearly all drugs, due to my mix of disease, however my daughter appears ok on it. MaryF

We don’t have the company, “Zentiva” in the US. I’ve gone to my chemist here ( what we call pharmacist) and together we’ve researched this.

Hi Kelly I live in California. I took the compounded plaquenil or really hydroxychloroquine from Colorado with none of these side effects. When I had it compounded here in California is where I had the problems. It was pure with rice flour. Could the hydroxychloroquine be different depending on the manufacture? Or is it coming from China & India & they produce it different. I tried to get this questionanswered but nobody would answer it. The pharmacy I went to said their supplier tests everything to make sure it is the right strength of . Any ideas Designer16

Hello there!😋. I'm so sorry for all the health challenges you're going through; as a fellow APS/MCAD patient, I can empathize😳. I just wanted to ask you a quick clarifying question, in hopes of providing you with the most helpful information as quickly as possible😉. When you say you can't reach Dr. Schofield, are you aware of her updated contact information since she opened her new practice? If not, just let me know--I'd be happy to provide you with the most current details😁 Meanwhile, best wishes to you for a speedy recovery from that unfortunate medication interaction, and an equally speedy discovery of a formulary that agrees well with your system😍
