Flying with Coaguchek Machine

Hi - I am flying for the first time in 8 years shortly and want to take my Coaguchek machine with just in case I want or need to test whilst abroad.

Does anyone know what the procedure is that’s needed to not be stopped by airport security for carrying the sharp lancelets used for pricking your finger?

Thanks...

Hi, I am pretty sure Lynn answered a similar post a while back and hand luggage yes, and or hold, but I would go for hand luggage in case you get delayed and need to use it. gov.uk/hand-luggage-restric...

Take it in hand luggage, the lancets are not long enough points to be a security problem. Take the product documentation as well, along with your warfarin and prescription, which together is adequate to explain it if queried - although I have have flown with it and never been questioned about it. If you are worried, pack another set of lancets in checked bag in case of confiscation - they aren't exactly expensive.

Do not put coaguchek in checked baggage - not only is it expensive and potentially a big problem if it is lost, but aircraft baggage holds are not absolutely guaranteed to be heated/cooled to the storage temperature range of the test strips (unless you've booked it as special temp-sensitive freight - probably cheapest way for that is to strap it to a dog :-). On most larger aircraft most of the time it should be fine, but they wouldn't guarantee it.
