Home INR testing machines

I was wondering if any of you that home test would tell me the name and model of their home testing machine. I am having major problems as my Ins doesnt seem to contract with anyone that carries them. So if I knew a few good APS appropriate home testing machines. Thank you for your time and input.

Roche Coaguchek XS. You will probably need to state or sign that you understand the machines don't always work with aps, and that you have approval of your Dr, because of the aps - we do in the UK. Some manufacturers don't support use with aps at all. I would also look at what the clinics use where you are (if they use fingerprick), where I am they also use coaguchek, so I am using exactly the same method as if I went to clinic - they use more expensive machines but the testing bit and test strips are identical.

I use CoaguChek XS from Roche.

I am Lupus Anticoagulant and then it is important to test often as the INR will change a lot and also doubletest the blood in the vein at a lab approved by the Specialist as the two results may differ considerably.

Well looks like coat u check is the one to use! I to am lupus anticoagulant positive. So gotta pay attention to the way the blood looks and runs not just the answer on the machine. The on I have is allege but it's been recalled and been fighting my Ins. On gettin a home machine! Utterly ridiculous. Save them money if I'm not n hospital. Thank you ALL for your responses. I truly appreciate each one.

I would love to get one but they are very expensive in US. I can't afford it plus the strips. My insurance won't cover it. My health has gotten worse sense I had to stop home testing. I just don't have the energy or opertunity to run to the lab once or twice a week. Stupid insurance company!

Hi! I also use the coaguchek xs machine at home and it is the BEST thing i have ever brought. I get my test strips on percription. I can not recommend it enough. I have had mine for 2 years. I am on warfrin and test every other day on my machine and i go to the clinic every 2 mths for a vain test to see if my machine is still giving the right result. It is always within range and have been told that i can except a 10% difference.

I wonder if you have Lupus Anticoagulant (one of the three antibodies they take to diagnose our illness)? What therapeutic level has your Specialist put you on?

Hi gemgemz,

We are so many here ...... I now see you have an INR of 3.0 and wants to raise it. You say you have Lupus, do you by that mean that you have got Lupus Anticoagulant? I then wonder if the readings are the same in the vein as with the CoaguChek XS -machine? Do you test both within a couple of hours?

Hi! Yes i do test possitive to lupus and i self test everyother day. I have a vein test taken at my gps every 2 months and my test at home is always very close if not right. I go to the gp in the evening and then take a home test when i get home. So not alot of time has passed between the 2 tests. Hope that makes sense 😊

If you are in the USA get in touch with Edgepark at 1 800-321-0591 extension 7181. My old INRatio meter has been recalled and I need to contact edgepark to see about new coaguchek by Roche. They work with your insurance but it is not cheap but gives better control if it is accurate for you. Nancy
