Micro clots

I had a stroke in 2011 and many mini strokes . Then had an operation in 2016 and felt funny afterwards lucky under the care of prof hunt at st Thomas hospital and registra sent me for an mri scan . Then discovered since my last mri scan I had suffered micro clots on my brain 🧠

Saw prof hunt last week and going to see me in 3 months time but sending me for a mri before hand . If I suffered more micro clots what is the prognosis???

Can’t imagine it can be good even though I don’t be getting any major symtems can’t think in long term micro clots must be doing damage to my brain 🧠!!!

Im sure Prof Hunt is on the case and can answer all your questions. Keep a list of your questions and ask her when you see her in your follow up.

When I had a series of micro clots (over 10 years ago now), it just led to an upgrade in medications and I've not suffered any since.

After years — Years! — of migranes and “panic attacks” MRIs revealed a lot of damage in my brain now attributed to clots and microclot strokes. The good news— After a year on warfarin, with daily walks, occasional hikes, bike trips and swims, and reading books every day, the follow up MIRs showed only 1 remaining leision in my visual cortrex. From dozens of leisions to just one! So, as mentioned above, follow the suggested protocol and don’t despair. Your brain is quite capable of healing itself. Just follow the protocol , exercise your body and your mind, and eat healthy!

Kaplach! (Hope you are a Star Trek Next Gen fan.)

So a “ lesion” which is evident on an MRI scan can resolvevwith anticoagulation? I always thought a lesion was a “ scar” but I guess this would indicate an active micro clot that could still be capable of being resolved? Is that why the “ lesions are now gone? I thought white lesions were scars? I guess they could also be active little clots that are not fully yet resolved?

( resolution of clots are possible as long as they are not chronic in status, which are usually deemed chronic in about 4 weeks after formation. The blood becomes “ speckled” , or not transparent in the blood clot itself. This is when the clot shifts fro acute to chronic status.

This was explained to me by my vascular surgeon when dealing with DVT in my Brachial. I just got a totally clean scan last week, by the way. December it was 5 inches totally occluded and I was told once again it was chronic and was the original clot from November 2016. That I’ve never resolved it- I can’t possible be reclotting like this. Well, that’s wrong! My vascular surgeon is seeing how quickly I clot/ resolve/ clot/ resolve.

But yes- each time I clot in that vein it scars it further,( narrows vein) so more likely to reclot in same place.

So Gina- are you saying that your neurologist has told you that you have had little strokes and TIA’s that left visible lesions on your brain by means of white lesions and Anticoagulant resolved the majority of these lesions?

Am I understanding you correctly?

I need to show this to my neurologist. One will certainly understand- one will not.
