Hello! While I agree with APSnotfab, we can't advise to much, it's safe to say you shouldn't take anti-inflammatory pain drugs like ibuprofen and you shouldn't mix warfarin and aspirin (unless advised to by the doc).

Diet - you shouldn't have grapefruit specifically, but there may be other foods to do with Vit-K.

Good luck

As mentioned above, there is no specific diet. Since warfarin basically fiddles with your body's ability to absorb and process Vitamin K, maintaing a consistent daily intake of K is crucial. But that absorption, metabolism and metabolic demand for K are also dependent on a lot of co-factors that include food AND behaviors and other meds and supplements.

So: first rule of APS warfarin fight club: Check with your doctor before taking any ANY new med, supplement, vitamin or over-counter herb.

Second rule of APas warfarin fight club ( at least, the rule that helped me get to a good start -and I've been on warfarin for 17 years now:) keep a notebook handy and document exactly what food and activities you do each day as well as INR and symptoms such as headache, cramps, random pains, unexplained bruising, etc. After a few months you will note relationships among all these to your best INR level. The relationships you notice will be very specific to you. Because the coagulation cascade in the blood AND the immune system checks and balances are so complex, ( lots and lots of dominoes) all of us react just a bit differently to warfarin therapy. Example: sunlight exposure will raise my INR, but oral vitamin D well cause my INR to sky rocket. So, I try to get a bit of sun every day or 2 and only take vitamin D in winter. And on Vitamin D days I add more leafy greens to my diet.

but the relationships you notice will be Tootsie 73 specific. Good luck!

Hi, it is very very important to eat consistently on Warfarin, and also to rule out deficiencies, including Thyroid testing, B12, D and Iron. A great book has been written by Cath Atkin, Eat On Warfarin, which a lot of people find very useful.
