Does anyone experience hairloss on warfarin.
Hi,
There are actually very few side-effects on warfarin. I have not noticed anything. It can perhaps be caused by the illness. APS affects all parts of the body sometimes. It is a mitocondrial illness.
Have you reached a stable INR a little over 3.0. now. You are allowed to go up to 3.5. Most of us feel much better when we are on that INR level. Even your headache will perhaps improve if you are steady (on the same INR for several weeks). Talk to your APS-doctor.
Best wishes to you from Kerstin
Yes I have also read that warfarin has a side effect of hair loss and it definitely happened to me, I have tried lots of remedies for this, and was taking Nourkrin for a while and it def helped even my hair dresser noticed. I have also tried different shampoos and conditioners. It is thicker now so not sure which has helped, although I am under alot less stress these days as had to give up working full time! I did try the caffeine shampoo which is supposed to help but it did nothing. The Nourkrin is expensive and you have to use it for a while before you notice the effects. I am trying the nanogen range at the mo and the day I used it and went to work everyone said how thick my hair was! however it is interesting what Kerstin said about the INR as since mine has been higher my hair has thickened, I thought it was the products but maybe it was the INR! Strange one! Which would suggest it isn't the warfarin I guess!
I will have a look out for the nourkrin. My hairdresser said I do have new hair growing so what is lost I am getting more back( although most R grey ) Kerstin my inr was 2.9 at last appointment so not quite at target will see on Wednesday at next test xxx
I Always speak of this low INR. But I have noticed it myself and read books about it and heard others on here tell how important it is to make our thick blood thinner. I have also noticed, as I selftest, how the INR goes up and down quite remarcable. In a perfect APS-World we should be tested at least every week.
I am happy for my selftest machine. Some day it will come a new drug but at present warfarin does its job to thin the blood. That is the key to feel better in every aspects with APS.

I was taken off warfarin by the INR Clinic because of hair loss and also because my INR would not settle. I'm now on acenumarol (have to check the spelling) but it's also known as sinethrome. My INR very rarely throws a hiss fit on my current anticoagulation drug.
I am not on warfarin - but I also suffer from hair loss.
I have read that ALOPECI (you loose your hair) is usual in some cases with SLE (Lupus). Some of us can have parts of SLE also and some have both SLE and APS.
Perhaps that is the reason you loose your hair.

I don't think you should rule out the possibility that a stressful event can do this to you. It typically occurs three months after the actual event....
Stress - Heat - these things never help us.
I have had a sudden flare in the middle of stress (both physical and mental).
I meant independent of any illness. Stress is the biggest cause of hair loss.
Had minor hair loss when I first went on Warfarin. No more than normal. But it soon passed. Taking Biotin helps to strengthen hair and nails. Also makes ones hair feel soft. Biotin has no known interaction with Warfarin.
Mainly hair loss is a case of genetics.
