Sorry GinaD,
I keep getting a page of advertisements. Coeliac disease runs in my family too so I would be interested in reading this.
Sorry. Link works for me. Go to Celiac.com and try to find the article from there. I hope this works.
Very interesting article. I have a cousin who has recently been diagnosed with celibacy and recovered from two years of awful mysterious pain. Doctors couldn't get to the bottom of what caused the pain but the GF diet has been a miracle cure for her. Is it advIsabe to just go aheAd and get on the diet or try to get tested. I understand that the testing is not that clear cut. My cousin had previously been told she didn't have it. A cousin of my Mum also has it. Thanks for posting this. Ann
Ditto APSnotfab. I did stop eating gluten before testing because I was by so doing indulging a nagging friend who had become an Adkins Diet convert. When my health improved on so many fronts my doctor and I reasoned backward to the Celiac conclusion. Given the sudden recovery from life long anemia as well as the precipitous drop in a number of rheumatoid factors fron high to normal, there is not a doctor in my team who does not believe I have Celiac. But my GTT test, which was run 6 weeks agpfter going gluten free, came back negative, and there was no colonoscopy. So I do not meet the criteria for a classic diagnosis. So far this has not caused a problem, but someday --say should I ever need long term residential care -- this might.
So do this right -- get the tests first! If you then go on the diet and feel better, then stick with the diet. But get the test first. If one of them is positive it will save you from tons of future hassle.
Thank you for this referral Gina. I am coeliac. So I am going to print this info. and take it to my Rheumy app. Hopefully it will make him take my suspicions more seriously.

Hi Gina,
Both your links worked for me. Thank you. Very interesting. I am going to see my Reumatolog next week and I will mention this. I Think prof. Hughes has mentioned this in his books.

Thank you so much. I will make a note and bring this up with my rheumatologist and/or GP when I see them in August.
