Hi everyone. I am 39, mother of 2, I started having palpitations this year. I august had 24 h ECG that showed several supra ventricular extrasystols and I was given metoprolol 50 mg daily. I did not take it daily as it lowers my BP which is already low. Since last Thursday I experience daily episodes of irregular beats, pulse no greater than 85. Ended up in ER yesterday, they said again that are extrasystols. Doctor said I should raise metoprolol 50 mg twice daily and gave me also baby aspirin daily. And to repeat the 24H ECG which I will on Thursday.
I am so scared of how this beats feel. my anxiety is high. I feel like butterflies in my stomach and my heart if fluttering. But some chest tightness. Is felt worse when sitting on chair or laid in left side. Gets a little better if I walk.
Could this be AFib and it just does not get caught on ECG? Anyone else with supra ventricular beats?
Thank you.

Yes, if they caught them on an ECG, then they are likely just extra beats. While very annoying, they are harmless in a healthy heart. And it's very common for them increase when laying and especially on left side and about that age is when they pop up for some people. The metoprolol will probably help a lot but ask your Dr if you can split the pill in half since it is making you too tired. I split a 25mg into 12.5 and take 2x per day and it is perfect and helps so much, as i also can have low blood pressure at times. And, for reference, I am 117lbs, 40 yr old female. My problem is different than yours but I have extrasystoles along with my other issues and the metoprolol makes the extrasystoles MUCH less noticeable and less frequent. Good luck, hope you feel better soon!
Hi, I have these too. I also have runs if atrial ectopic beats which scare me a lot. I also get light headed with them.
The electrophysiologist keeps telling me he isn’t worried and I can take beta blockers if I want to. I keep asking him why they happen and he can’t give me an answer.
Like you, I have low BP so opted not to take the beta blockers. It frustrates me how blasé docs are when symptoms are frightening and/or new. I’ve never been advised to start baby aspirin but seems like a reasonable suggestion.
I am waiting for the EKg Holter I will get on Thursday. Not my best days these days. But i hope It will get better. Did you notice any connection between the ectopics and meals or body posture? I noticed they are more after I eat or if I don't have a propper posture at my desk.
Hours big meals alcohol start of exercise and end of exercise & when been sitting and then move ( can have a few ) or that can set them off for a while no real
Pattern but they are horrible and make me bit breathless had all the tests and all good some people have them and never
Notice!!! Can’t really understand that one as mine flutter and feel them in my throat
