Heart block

Hi, I posted a question very similar already on the AF forum but thought I would ask here also.

Has anyone on here had or know of anyone who has had 2nd or 3rd degree heart block.

About 8 weeks ago after suffering 3 bouts of dizziness I was diagnosed with 2nd degree heart block and fitted with a pacemaker although on my pacemaker documentation it describes my condition as 3rd degree complete heart block which the consultant has said again was 2nd degree. At my first pacing clinic I was advised my PM was doing 1% of the work and my heart 99% of the work so hard to see it is complete heart block as I would expect the PM to be doing a lot more.

I am 64 years old and although told at first my condition in the absence of any other heart symptoms was likely age related, was also told they would like to carry out a heart MRI soon to examine the structure of my heart to rule out infiltration I think. (Although advised this is rare)

I know very little about this condition and am quite concerned about what it may mean.

I am hoping I can find others who had heart block with no other conditions that caused it, as I do know that it is possible to get it as we age so as to hang on to the hope that nothing else sinister is afoot.

Thanks for reading my post.

Alan

I have a second degree, Mobitz Type 1 heart block which was diagnosed about 10 years ago. Mostly I have palpitations daily and occasional light headed ness. Have been told this is a benign condition but could eventually require a pacemaker. The symptoms are unnerving and annoying. I am 62 years old and otherwise in great health.

Thanks for your reply, mine was mobitz 2 hence the immediate installation of the PM, coincidently today is exactly 1 year since I had my first noticeable dizzy spell, and I had the PM fitted in September as it too that long to identify exactly what was wrong.

It sounds like your heart seems to be pretty stable at the moment and I can understand your symptoms are unnerving, bu I am sure they are monitoring closely how your heart is performing.

Stay well.

My husband collapsed twice caused by 3rd degree heart block, his pm doesn't do much of the work so rarely kicks in. He did have a previous silent heart attack and has mitral valve regurgitation but the block came out the blue.

I've got 2nd degree and wish to god they would fix it but getting any treatment is like paddling upstream 😞

I think heart block does happen without warning, I had no previous heart related issues so as you can imagine was quite a shock.

Hope you get sorted soon.
