SVT Palps

This is my first time posting so here goes nothing. I’m in the hospital right now. I arrived by ambulance. I was at home just starting to eat when I had a few palps in a row that quickly turned into super fast tachy. This has only happened to me once before about 5 years ago. I know it was in the 200’s before the paramedics got there. It was around the 160’s when they arrived. The first time it happened to me it was 256 (my pulse) when the medics arrived. This time I was able to bear down and get it a little lower th the 160’s when they got there. Paramedics gave me 2 doses of heart slowing meds in the ambulance and got my pulse down to 140/138 range. They gave me blood work in the ER and said my potassium was low at 2.7 saying that’s the main cause of everything. The potassium wasn’t the problem the first time this happened, nobody could tell me what was wrong the first time. I know this crap scares the hell outta me and makes my anxiety horrible. Having health anxiety doesn’t help this at all. I just want everything to go back to normal. Wondering if anybody else has scares like this cause I feel all alone.

Please don't feel alone! This has happened to most of us somewhere along the line and do be encouraged for it may lead to having tests that often show there is no problem of a significant nature.

That probably doesn't make it seem any better for you right now, but do not feel that a sudden electrical peculiarity means your heart is faulty. There's a range of things that hearts can do to worry and upset us and it is no bad thing to know what's going on.

Should you find you have a heart that can sometimes go off the rails, there can be benefits as it can lead us to a healthier lifestyle.

Thanks for the response. I’ve had palps since I was 13. They’ve become more frequent the older I’ve gotten. I’m 35. The tachy has only been happening since 2014, or 2013, well, that’s when I had the first horrible episode.

Well, this is an opportunity for you to move forwards and find out how to take control. It can be easy to ignore tachycardia and let your heart drift into ways that are not good for it.
