Fibroids after hysterectomy?

Hi everyone! I'm new here, and tbh, I thought my days of poring over hysterectomy posts were behind me. I had a hysterectomy in 2011, as I had multiple fibroids, the largest was the size of a melon. For the last year, I have been having pelvic pain and pressure, some light spotting, and an extreme worsening of my IBS symptoms. I tried low FODMAP diet in January which didn't make any difference. For the last 3 months, I have had really bad pain and cramping on my lower left side with pain in my lower back and down my left leg. I am due to have a colonoscopy and gastroscopy on Friday, and yesterday I had a routine ultrasound to prepare for the scopes.

The big surprise was the ultrasound technician telling me I had a large uterus full of fibroids. When I told him that couldn't be possible as I had already had a hysterectomy, he said that he could see a large mass where my uterus should be. I am scheduled for an MRI before the scopes on Friday morning, but I am absolutely terrified.

Does anyone know if fibroids can grow back if there is a small piece of cervix left for example, or could this be a sign of ovarian cancer?

Thanks for reading xx

Hi Alice, thanks for replying! I had an MRI and it looks like it is a large fibroid growing on the stump of my cervix. I'm scheduled to see a gynae surgeon on Wednesday to see what happens next. I didn't know that it was possible for fibroids to come back after a hysterectomy, but there you go! Hopefully it will be sorted soon x

Good luck for today sending hugs love and prayers. I've my pre op appointment on Tuesday for hysterectomy I'm glad its happening on one hand but I am scared 😓 too. I don't do well with pain I hate not been allowed to do much either. Feeling worried about it all xxx

Best of luck, tinyshadow, I hope it all goes well for you. Ask them about pain relief and make sure you have something you are happy with. I brought an ice pack for my stitches and an electric hot water bottle for my back which really helped the last time. Also I had a lot of pain from trapped air that they pump in during the op, and after three days of that I got peppermint oil to have in water which really helped. I have my pre-op on Monday, and surgery the following Friday so it's all happening really fast! Keep in touch, we will be in recovery together xx

You were probably wise to have everything out. I have to have further surgery now, to remove my ovaries, cervix, and fallopian tubes, and to take out whatever is growing. Hope your recovery goes well x

I just had the same thing happen. I had a CT scan and the report said I had an enlarged uterus with multiple fibroids and lesions. When I told the doctor I had no uterus he sent the information to the radiologist and had an addendum done. It came back that after review, I actually had a large mass with possible neoplasm, probably starting in the ovaries. The doctor said it could be cancer or fibroids from “left over uterus” (I had a supracevical hysterectomy 12 years ago) What was your outcome? I see an oncologist next week.

How have you got on? What was your outcome? I had hysterectomy in 2009, leaving one ovary 2015 It was discovered I had another fibroid, which was removed along with my remaining ovary , a cyst and endemetriosis. 2 year later I now have 4 fibroids about 5cm and some tiny clusters. I can't find any information about this kind of situation anywhere that offers any help
