Vaginal Hysterectomy

I recently had a posterior prolapse repair but my specialist now says I need to have a hysterectomy because the uterus was actually causing the prolapse. I also need to have bladder prolapse repair. I am not that I want to go ahead with this operation but am having trouble getting good advice from my GP or Specialist. I am 64 and married and in good health generally.

Sorry to hear your going through this and now a possible second operation. Sounds like the first surgeon overlooked something..? Always seek out a second and even third opinion.

It’s your body and you need to fully understand what’s going on. I wish you all the best.

Thanks for your comments. The specialist I saw is the only female gynie in the region. I feel that I have to way it all up for myself and that is why I have joined this group hoping to find other women who have faced these choices. It is harder to choose when I know it is an elective surgery in my case - not based on disease but on structural problems of prolapses.

We need to understand why so many women are having prolapses. It is due to something gone wrong in our bodies and surgery and the other band aid remedies in my view is not good enough. We need to demand more help to prevent this happening.

I've had everything you've had done in one operation and I'm 46. You know your own body it is a long recovery from a Hysterectomy I'm 9 weeks tomorrow post operative. All the best my operation was due to multiple organ prolapses.

Thanks Suzi for your comments. It is the lengthy recovery time that concerns me plus the fact there is no 100% guarantee it will all be successful in the end. I hope in your case that you go on to much improved health.

That’s it no guarantees and years of some form of medication. Please do as much research for yourself before surgery. I have prolapse too and to often it is just brushed aside as if it’s nothing major. It’s mind altering, it impacts on one daily. It just creeps up and before you know it one has aged over night.

Before I even think of surgery I am exploring various ways to heal so that there will be no dependency on tablets.

Good evening banksia123,

Am lying down not feeling sleepy but with some good amount of pain after an 8hour shift . And am wondering, how many women are undergoing surgery, post surgery pain, and effects worldwide right now? With no age limit? And it strikes me: infinity is the number. Coz we're many. What am talking about? Sometimes what one doctor sees as a threat to our health, the other sees it as a very minute thing. Not so important. "You can live with it," one doctor can tell you.

Bottom line; you're your own doctor. You give the doctor the information they ride on in order to come up with a diagnosis or tests. Everyone does. Listen to your body. It always speaks repeatedly to you through signs and symptoms. Seek 2nd and even 3rd opinion and compare notes. Remember your health condition is very important to you. If the doctor has recommended it, it must be important for your well-being. But be sure you're comfortable about it before you decide on what to do. Acceptance is Paramount. Who's right or wrong on diagnosis, at this point doesn't matter. Trust î on how you feel. Then decide on what to do with making the pain you going through now to go away. If it calls for another surgery, so be it.

I am 47 years old, 5months post op TAH + BSO. Not same case as you. But we share one thing in common: women travailing in pain. Everything feminine within me is gone. But I got no more unplanned bleeding episodes. Nor feeling anaemic. Just working on the way back onto my feet: The healing process.

I pray and believe that you'll make sound judgement. I hope you find this encouraging.

Cheers girl !

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I am leaning towards not going ahead with the operation. It is booked for February 2020 so I have some time to think about it and see how my body is dealing with the symptoms xx

Dear Banksia123,

Am seated here this summer Sunday reminiscing, going through mails on health unlocked. And I hit on your mail.

This is February 2020. I pray that you found peace and healing through normal treatment and not surgery. It is my earnest prayer. I'm getting back on my feet. At least I can look at myself in the mirror without feeling apathy for me. Am feeling good about me. The back pain and nervous imbalance especially in my head is a hiccup. But am moving on.

I trust God for total healing with time.

It shall be well.

Have a blessed Sunday 🙏🙏🙏
