Really struggling with my weight

Hi there guys, I’m following a weight loss plan at the moment that I’ve been following for the past eight years. I had a nasty shock this morning when I’ve got weighed at my group. I’ve gained a pound and a half and I really don’t know how I’ve done it because I have stuck to the plan and I’ve been exercising regularly. I’ve got an email saying there was a new post on this platform which inspired me to write one myself. Any tips would be appreciated. Thank you XXX

Sorry, I replied and deleted by mistake! In case you've got 2 notifications for a reply!

I wouldn't stress too much over a 1.5lb gain, as weight is so easily affected by day to day activities. You possibly ate more salt/carbs yesterday, so have held onto a bit more water. Maybe you've gained 1.5lbs of muscle thanks to working out.

It could be worth introducing some othe means to monitor your weight, like how your clothes feel, taking a photo once a fortnight to compare, taking measurements. Weight is only one tool, and it's a very fickle one.

Hi there, thank you for that advice. I will definitely go by the way my clothes feel as at the moment they feel okay and everything fits me. Thank you that’s really helpful

Don't worry I took am on a weight loss plan ,I'd often be really good and gain a 1lb or more but following week I'd lose 2 lb. It can be fluid or inflammation causing it .Stick to the plan try to increase steps if you can you'll do fine .Good luck x

It could be down to lack of vitamin D3 caused by the Winter weather. I take 5,000 IU of vit D3 every day over the Winter months. youtu.be/Dg3_yWLOJ7o?si=q9b...

Amazingly frustrating, isn't it? Don't let it get you down. I have been 15-40 pounds overweight for 50 years now. I weigh myself twice a day-which I know is a bad thing to do if you're trying to lose weight. BUT, what that has shown me is that my weight often varies by a pound or more within the same day, regardless of my food intake and / or exercise output. I often weigh more in the morning than I do at night. I am trying to get my BMI down into the "normal" range and I really only have about 10 pounds to lose to accomplish that, but OMG it is a struggle! Hang in there.

I used to weigh myself when I woke up and then 30 minutes later after taking a shower. Sometimes after a shower I lost a pound!!!!

I tried the Noom "diet" about a year ago and my weight really fluctuated daily. Up 2 down 1 up .5 down 3. Then, the weight would stabilize and stay down 3 to my new weight. Then this weight fluctuating started all over again. Eventually I reached my 12 pound weight loss. It was amazing. Some days when the UP weight number got me annoyed I would do more steps (walking) or add another exercise.

As a caregiver for my hubby my focus is usually on him. So, sad to say the 12 pounds have found me again. I'm trying to do lose weight on my own without Noom but may have to sign up again. Noom is on your phone and it's like having a companion give you encouragement and constantly remind me that I'm important, too.

Keep the faith.

Hi Medical - mystery25, having read the other posts I noticed something that nobody has picked up on yet. You have been trying to lose weight for the last 8 years since you were 17. That means you have had consistent success with your plan and at every assessment point you have no weight gain. That's a remarkable feat that the majority of people would be ecstatic about! So if one little blip has forced you to put a post on here, don't you think it is a bit OTT? If you had a series of blips over a long time frame, that would be the time to post it! Your perceived problem is not really a problem yet is it? I wish I had your success! Good luck with it.

It's unfortunate but true, that the old advice is the best advice. Stick to it, calorie count what you eat, be honest with yourself over portion sizes and remember to include everything, sauces, the oils you cook in, butter you spread etc Long time fitness people will tell you, you can't out exercise, a poor diet.
