Feeling really ill gastritis no energy

I have been suffering from gastritis for years, and I’m petrified to have endoscopy so I’ve been trying to deal with this through diet only, I have got omperazole tabs, but after reading online that they can cause dementia I stopped taking them, whether this is true I don’t know, but it’s freaked me out as my mum died from Alzheimer’s, I have phlegm in my throat 24\7. And when I wake I am breathless, the fatigue I’m experiencing is awful now, so I really should take the tabs and stop reading horror stories,

Hi Eternity6

So sorry to hear you're experiencing discomfort. I know you've been experiencing this long-term, as you mention it going on for years. Have you discussed this with your GP recently? Might be worth going to see him/her and talking about your concerns, as there might be other options to help you.

The NHS pages about gastritis are here:

nhs.uk/conditions/gastritis/

Not sure if there's anything new there that might be of help to you?

Maybe discuss your concerns about your tablets with your GP to get their opinion on them, and maybe there are alternatives.

Hope you get some relief and have a reasonably comfortable evening.

Zest :-)

Hello Eternity6 sadly you fear the unknown and my opinion is an endoscopy could reveal all. I've had an endoscopies and the first led to me being diagnosed with coeliac.

You are suffering and possibly unnecessarily and suffering from gastritis long term is a sign that something really needs rectifying.

Good luck and my advice is please talk to your Dr.

Jerry 😊

Hi Rubywoo6, the fear of endoscopy will definitely not be as bad as the current pain you are feeling.

I had mine in August of last year and it was a little uncomfortable but the numbing spray does help . It’s over in minutes .

Honestly bite the bullet.. and book yourself in.

I haven’t been advised against omeprozole by my doctors .. I would see if your docs take you off any meds .. they are the experts ..

good luck I suffer with gastritis but it’s manageable with the meds and right food choices I’m getting there .. without churning pain in the nights .. 😊

It’s so strange as I was in pain a burning pain up through chest and into throat after I had eaten pastry, this happened loads of times when I had eaten eg fish chips once I stopped no pain, I don’t have pain at all in that spot and the pain I was feeling was round left rib had scan: was told fatty liver: so changed my diet, was given omperazole was taking them happily, then read about the dementia aspect of taking long term omperazole as my mum died from Alzheimer’s that really scared me, I stopped taking omp. Which probably was a silly thing to do, and now after tonsillitis I have phlegm in throat still no pain, I’m back on the omp.i haven’t been told I have to have endoscopy but I realise it’s the best test to find out what’s going on. As I have a fear of being sick n choking this is concerning me, I wouldn’t have sedation as in past I’ve reacted quite badly to it, and been ill for days after,

Eternity6 I would agree with others who have suggested go back to speak to your dr, the endoscopy might help to get you the correct treatment and there are other options than the throat

spray. I chose to have sedation and its a bit more of a nuisance as you can’t drive yourself home afterwards, but I fell asleep before the tube was down and only remember about two seconds of it- worth it to get a proper diagnosis. Good luck.

Have you considered taking Slippery Elm for gastritis? It is based on a natural North American remedy with no reported side effects.

The reviews on the link that I posted are worth reading. There are a few reviews that have said they had great relief using slippery elm.

I had gastritis a few years ago and I found it very helpful. I resisted taking omeprazole unless it was a last resort. I take slippery elm (very rarely now) if I get any the first signs of a problem.
