Apple Season

I'm always a big fan of apple season, stewed apples are mentioned often for being great for gut bacteria, and it helps that they're tasty!

I thought I'd try an apple crumble, using oats, with almond flour and coconut oil for sweetness. It's very tasty :)

Is anyone else drowning in apples right now? What are you doing with them?

It does help if I remember the photo if course!

In my village lots of people have apple trees and some good souls gather up the apples they don’t need and put them out near the village shop for passers by to use. People leave a donation which goes towards the local food bank. I’ve left lots of home grown produce there myself….mostly huge Japanese cucumbers this year. Someone has grown pink fir apple potatoes and left out lots for people to sample. I tried a few roasted recently and they were delicious. There are lots of Bramley apples there at the moment, so I’ve selected a few and made a spiced apple cake with them. Yummy.

My sister is fortunate to have a community orchard near her (where everyone is welcome to go pick fruit), it could be worth looking to see if you have one nearby to you :)

I am fortunate that my neighbour has a glut this year. I have stewed lots for the freezer, made a couple of crumbles and will make a Devonshire Apple Cake this week. I love this warm served with full fat Greek yogurt with a sprinkling of cinnamon but my partner likes his with clotted cream😊
