Today is National Avocado Day (July 31st). Here's some information that was originally posted on nationaltoday.com and saying how it came to be a holiday and what can be done to celebrate this "alligator skinned pear shaped fruit".

I usually have avocados either on their own as a side dish or added to salads and/or to 7-layer dips for dinners. I plan to have an avocado with dinner tonight to celebrate the fruit's day. As the article on nationaltoday.com says, you can "Nurture the pit and grow a house plant Just clean off the huge seed, pierce it with three toothpicks and submerge it right-side up in a glass of water."

I love avocado and eat them regularly as I was told that they were so good for me. But I've recently heard that they are not so good for people with kidney disease. Does anybody have any experience or information about this. I'm in a bit of a flare up at the moment so I'm finding it difficult to filter through all the stuff on Google. So I was just wondering if anyone had any knowledge of this?

I usually stick to everything in moderation. One of my favourite things is a cold chicken, sliced avocado and hot crispy bacon wrap.

I will do tomorrow but the advice is so varied. I often think it's good to also ask advice from people who are actually living with different health conditions because their experience is so valuable.

I've now had some advice. Apparently everything in moderation as I suspected. I just have to have my renal function monitoring increased a little.

When lockdown started I was shielding so I was very hemmed in and I changed my diet by having a high protein and low carb diet. Apparently a higher protein diet can put a bit of stress on the kidneys. But I want to watch the carbs because I am on steroids and don't want to gain weight or out myself at risk of type 2 diabetes. In fact I lowered my Hba1c, not that it was high. But I'd rather be proactive than reactive.

I do love a good avocado.

This is what I had for dinner tonight. Avocado is one of the layers. Really great with gluten free crackers.

7-layer dip with avocado mixed in with Greek yogurt, black and green olives, etc..

To ALL here: Despite being such a delicious fruit, avocados (& avocado oil) are ONLY healthy/beneficial if you’re Blood Type A! All other Blood Types - O, B and AB - should AVOID eating them as they contain Lectins that are essentially toxic to your systems, causing problems such as inflammation and agglutination.

Apologies to all that love them, but being aware of the facts is crucial to our health and healing. Luckily, I’m Type A.. 😉🥑 😋

I think research seems to lean more to suggest it's more about your gut microbiome than your genes/blood type - identical twins (same genetics/blood type) can eat identical diets but have different health outcomes, and the only identifiable difference is when they assess gut diversity

Absolutely! The gut microbiome is imperative to good health and a balanced immune system and this evidence/understanding is being taken into account and slowly, incorporated into mainstream Healthcare (finally!)However, there are also more and more various-disciplined Dr’s whose own work (non MHRA/FDA clinical trials’) leads them to propose that our gut bacteria is also specific to Blood Type and therefore, not all foods work well to feed (prebiotic) or maintain/increase (probiotic) the Type-specific microbiome enabling it to thrive.

The ‘only identifiable difference’ thus far! 🤓 Unless and until, nutrition is taken far more seriously than it currently is in our medical establishment and research is actually conducted to properly assess such fundamental aspects, eg blood and immune systems and the anti-bodies produced, how indeed would ‘they’ actually see or learn any ‘difference’? 🤓

Fascinating research, thanks for sharing! -- and interestingly, after years of trial and error myself, and without me know this research/hypothesis, I settled on an eating pattern which directly reflects what I have just read is recommended for my blood type. It certainly feels right for me

You know, anecdotal evidence is so often so readily (& vehemently!) dismissed, but I honestly think we must take ALL evidence into careful consideration. And emperical evidence is surely ‘proof’ in its own/individual way, regardless of whether something is ‘clinically tested’ or given some regulatory body’s stamp of approval! The mere fact that an approved new drug literally has to be proven to be ‘at least as effective as the placebo’ before being pushed out there, side-effects, detrimental effects and often a total lack of any actual healing to go with it, makes one wonder WHY isn’t way more attention and interest being given to the PLACEBO effect in the first place!!!

Also - for me and many friends/family - exactly the same is true: foods that are generally liked, not liked, cause issues, etc so often correspond very closely to the Blood Typing. Surely this is more than mere coincidence.

At 58 and English, I was raised on the typical ‘good/balanced’ diet of “meat, potatoes and veg”. As a kid, I HATED meat and potatoes and was ‘forced’ to eat it because it was “healthy”. At school I was forced to drink the bottle of milk every single morning. 🤢

At 24 I was diagnosed with Auto-immune issues and Crohn’s. I then discovered I’m Blood Type A. Type A’s do not have the gut/immune systems to be able to properly digest and metabolise meat or dairy! They evolved by necessity from Type O’s (hunter/gatherers) to an agrarian-based diet.

It's an interesting read. I'm AB but because I have lupus apparently I can actually change my blood type. That's really got me scratching my head!

Yes, I’ve read that about Lupus & the possibility of changing from AB to A and back again, or vice versa. So strange isn’t it?! My partner is AB too & I’m A. If you’re interested in looking further into the ´food values’ (particularly the Avoid group to help with inflammation/flare-ups) there is a really useful App that lists all the foods in each value & up to 4 blood types can be entered so that values can automatically be compared eg ‘shopping lists’ can be done for the whole family (or just for yourself with both AB & B, as I do for myself and my partner) & the App then shows which of your items are Avoid for each of the blood types you’ve entered. Same with the ‘recipes’ also included in the App. It’s $3.99, updates regularly/freely & is listed under ´EatRight4YourType’.

I really hope you manage to get things back under control, happytulip.. it’s not easy & very exhausting on all sorts of levels having to cope with auto/immune problems and I know only too well how serious an issue inflammation is, especially in A’s and AB’s.. 🙏💕

Thank you but I'm pretty spot on with what I can and can't have. I have a low FODMAP, high protein, low carb, low histamine dairy and gluten free diet. So it will probably just give you an epic migraine. But thank you for offering.
