I took the photograph on which this is based last November. I have been told that every painting should tell a story. What is the story here? I tried to make the sky reflect how cold it was. The way the track disappears over the brow of the hill might perhaps leave you wondering, what is to be found there?
I like this, on the whole, but am disappointed by the gorse bush to the right. Perhaps I could revisit the scene and miss out that bush. That would give a far better impression of the track disappearing into the near distance.
I used watercolour paints (I was adventurous and made the sky turquoise and magenta), white acrylic ink in the sky, oil pastels, salt and clingfilm. The texture of the gorse bush I made by painting over muslin.

Hi Brent I love this painting and it has that intriguing quality that make my imagination wonder what delights are over the brow.
I think the gorse with its yellow flowers enhance your painting and I love the autumn gold colours in the background with the evergreen trees so Iโd be shouting from the roof tops if I could paint anything close to this.
I love your paintings and your unique style of art and thatโs a fact so thank you sharing this. ๐
Impressed with this painting. As soon as I saw it , I said Yes, this is something Iโd like to paint. But never happens. Iโm hopeless at prospective so for me, this painting is so inspiring. Thereโs a horse and cart coming towards me from round the bend in the road. Followed by a stream of cars.
Another goody Brent!I'm sure I've said before, but I have a fascination with seeing tracks, paths, roads, tunnels etc, in both paintings and photos, always allows your imagination to take you anywhere you want!
I think the way you have painted the 'grass' in the middle of the track, going off to the left a little, gives great perspective!
And I feel very much like 'getting in' there and exploring that field, so a success in my eyes!๐
This is very beautiful and I love the way the colors go well together! Thank you for sharing this with us, Brent.๐๐๐ผ
OK BrentW, I didn't know that was a gorse bush, but, did I need to know? Not at all. I love the unusual crispness of this painting by contrast with the style of some of your others. I seem to feel it's late afternoon with shadows lengthening and I am actually feeling a little apprehensive about what might be just over the brow of the hill as darkness falls!
