100 Kilo Kids shocking statistic that over 1/2 of the children in the UK are over weight or obese.

Hi everyone,

This was on Channel 4 last night and it featured a boy of 14 who is 23 stone, this is a shocking fact as is the fact that over 1/2 of the children in the UK are over weight or obese.

I think that we as a society should look at this and really think about where 'we' have gone wrong as something has gone badly wrong.

Apparently in some developping countries obesity is seen as a status symbol...now if this isnt boinkers as theyve obviously got their values badly wrong.

Here's a link to the article in the Metro yesterday:

And here's a link to Channel 4 the makers of the program:

Really we as a society should be teaching the importance of eating well and good nutrition from an early age rather than blaming external factors as it's about taking responsibilty for our health and our offspring.

So food for thought indeed as we are what we eat. ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ

I wanted to see that, but missed it. I completely agree with you Jerry.

It is awful that a 14 stone boy weighs in at 23 stone, all that pressure on his organs, not to mention the bullying he may recieve, its so sad. I think you have to look closer to home

It is very sad Debs as being obese doesnt make children happy so why let it happen? there's cases where children are so obese they are told not to run far or they might have a heart attack...

Thats so awful Jerry, it is heartbreaking. Such pressure at such a young age

And this, I presume is assuming a BMI of 25.a healthier BMI definition would be 23, but that would push it to 75%I guess.

BMI isn't a great indicator of health in general, but I'm curious why you think a BMI of 23 is healthier/healthiest?

Sounds like as a country youโ€™re catching up to the widespread obesity problem in The States. I blame it on all the convenience foods. No one cooks anymore. They pop something in the microwave or the stove. Or they think putting a processed jar of sauce on processed pasta is cooking. It is really ridiculous!

in reply to MamaOnTheRun

Hi MamaOnTheRun it's slick advertising making fast food appear desirable with no thought for nutrition, it's literally a recipe for disaster.

Yes I recorded it. Then watched it. The mother of that young lad you was bringing food in was not good she was not helping her son at all. She was the problem in that case. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I agree that we should be teaching the importance of food/healthy nutritional food to not just only kids but to adults as well.

Food is the number one thing we all need to concentrate on more than anything really.

Concentrating on foods/the right foods is much more important than working your butt off all day just to scrape by through life.

Where we have gone wrong is where most of the public HAVE to work so much that we donโ€™t have the time or money to make/eat good food and end up eating the quick processed foods (which are very bad for you in the long run).

Eating ourself to death, it is part of the New World Order.

Yes i agree with you to a point

But we also have to look at the person health history and how does the persons body works there are cases where they try there best to lose the weight but there body system runs slow
