It has now become normal to me.

I have been having bowel problems for about two years. I just never get the urge or need to go to poo. About every 10 days I drink a litre of prune juice and within 36 hours I have bowel movement. I never have pain, constipation or diarrhoea. I also suffer with severe c.o.p.d. for which prior to covid I went for hospital check ups twice a year. I have never sought any help for my bowels as it is now my normal. I am 62 years old and live alone. Should I get this checked out?

You should always get bowl problems looked at, particularly as you get older, I am 62 and have had bowl problems for as long as I can remember, I have Diverticulitis along with GERD, I have just had my test through the post for bowel cancer which I will do today, I think once you have bowel problems they are here to stay, but with a good diet, and maintaining a healthy weight, and probably medication it can become controlled, and liveable mine tends to run in the family (pardon the pun, lol) but you should be doing regular yearly stool tests if you are having long term bowel problems. Speak to your GP ASAP

Thank You for your reply. I did my test through the post last month, it was clear. Since we have been in lock down I have not had a good diet so that is something I need to address . Will see G.P.

If its worrying you then yes. I wonder why you don't take some prune juice every day?

Thank You for your reply Vonnie. Yes you are right I should take prune juice more often. The problem being it tastes horrible, lol, I tried diluting the juice and that did not work.

Try mixing your juices to kill the taste of the prune juice i.e. prune juice and mango, or apple, or all 3, try a variety of juices and see what works for you, dates are also good for loosening your bowel, and the taste isn't as harsh as pure prune juice.

Thank You TG. Now you mention that, it sounds so obvious. Why I never thought of that escapes me. I have various juices already in the cupboard. I will now mix some together and try drinking it before bedtime. Many Thanks to You and Others who have taken the time to reply to me, it is greatly appreciated.

If you're drinking before bedtime, I would advise well before bedtime, in fact if you have bowel problems, you should try not eating or drinking after 7pm, if you need to drink after that time, only water is advisable, my GP is always telling me this, easier said than done though.

Thank You for your reply. I do eat a lot of processed and canned food. Point taken.

Thank You for your reply. I have just recently started drinking warm water first thing on a morning on the advice of a neighbour. At the moment I am experimenting with all the advice commented on here ,and, will now add castor oil to my to try list. Many Thanks Again.

Thank You. I will try that.

Hi. The mixing different juices and warm water are having a slight effect. Am pretty much still experimenting still.

Hi. I am pleased with my progress. Have been drinking warm water first thing on a morning and the results are very good, now I have bowel movement twice a week. To some that may not seem enough, but to me it is a lot more than I am used to. Thank You for the helpful advice. I will see how things go for a couple of weeks.
