Day 361: Exercise.

Today I got back into exercising. It was fun and my body reminded me I had not exercised in a while. Still, stage two of my 'get back into it' plan has started. Stage 3 on Monday!

Can you give me some advice? What exercises are you doing? I want to but I find it boring. My body needs me to do it. Maybe I'm just making up excuses! When do you do your exercises? Thank you.

Hey Whatgoingon. I do a number of different things depending on my mood. The first thing you have to understand in terms of exercise is that doing something is better than doing nothing. Going for a walk for 30 minutes, doing a YouTube video (that's how I discovered Team Body Project), running around the block, buying a skipping rope and doing that in your back garden...anything that raises your heart rate and makes you out of breath.

The one thing about exercise is that, when you first start to do it, it is very challenging and you need to adjust your mindset so that you understand this. You have to do it regardless of how you feel, because once you have done it you feel great. That feeling may not be there right away, it may kick in during the shower, or after half an hour, but you do feel much better.

When you start, don't push yourself to do more than you can and take regular breaks, but try and go for about 10 minutes and then build on that, after a week, up it to 20, after two weeks, up it to 30. The more often you do it, the less punishing it becomes. There are days when I really cannot be arsed to get up or do anything, but I know that if I put not doing it as an option, then I'll always choose that option. I'm naturally lazy, so I have to make sure that it isn't an option...it's how I put all my weight back on after doing so well.

Ultimately, it's down to you and what you want. Like all things, plan ahead and make sure you factor in the time it'll take, as well as the time to put on different clothes, or grab water, or have a shower afterwards etc. Just do it, too, because the longer you take thinking about it the more chance you'll have of talking yourself out of it. I know this from experience.

To stop it from being boring, if you go for a walk, put some earphones on and listen to an audiobook (that's what I do when running), or plan a route and take a camera. Go and visit a friend on foot in the park, or walk to the shops instead of driving. Join a class, where there are lots of other people and you can get help and motivation from them. Watching motivational videos and people on YouTube also helped me to do things too.

I hope that this helped a little. Please ask me anything else or if you're unclear or want some more specifics about what I have said.

Good luck and stay hard!
