Oh no! That must have hurt, I really hope you're feeling better now, and don't have any residual pain. Take care. I also hate it when that happens, and I suppose the only thing to consider is to take extra care when eating things.Zest 
Unfortunately you can't, it just happens. I'm like you, I hate it when it happens. I hope your tongue is okay now.
