The popularity of Amla can be seen in every Indian kitchen. Being a versatile berry it stands proudly on the kitchen shelves and consumed either as a pickle, a mouth freshener dried and salted, a lip-smacking Murraba, or a simple Amla juice.

Some health benefits of Amla:

- Weight loss

Weight Loss is one big problem for all of us and winters are the time we prefer remaining tucked in our bed, cosy and comfortable because of which we ditch our regular workouts and walks. Not that Amla can compensate for the walks but definitely amla can help you burn fat as it boosts your metabolism and digestion. Being rich in fibre consuming amla is good enough to flush out toxins from the system and help keep your gut healthy. Eating Amla can prevent sluggishness that makes you miss workouts regularly. One of the best ways is to have Amla juice every day and see the difference.

- Treating your hair

Hair gets dry and dull during winter. Treating your hair with Amla hair oil will definitely enhance hair growth, colour, and pigmentation. The carotene, iron, and antioxidants present in amla prevent the damage of hair follicles.

- Stabilize Insulin Level:

The chromium present in amla is the answer for stabilizing the insulin level in Diabetics as well. It helps in repairing the pancreatic tissues, which prevents the damage of insulin-producing cells. Taking raw amla regularly can make your body to be more responsive to insulin.

For medicinal and therapeutic use eating amla daily during winters is a good way to keep cold, cough and flu out of the bay. It’s a rich source of vitamin C, vitamin A, polyphenols, alkaloids, etc. If consumed on a regular base helps increase white blood cells which helps to defend the body against foreign toxins and keeps the body strong to overcome the harsh winters.

It might well have health benefits. Unfortunately, it tastes horrible :)

I was really disappointed to discover this, because it actually does look like a gooseberry (one of my favourite fruits). Sadly it doesn't taste like one.

I love gooseberries so am sure that UK grown ones are good for us too. 😊
