lifetime dieter
Hi, I can recommend keto, especially high-protein keto. I started 6 weeks ago and it has been the 1st ever diet that I have been able to stick to for that long. I have lost a bit of weight, feel way better and intend to make it my new lifestyle. Give it a go.
Hello, I've found calorie counting to be the easiest way. It means you can still have that chocolate bar that you're craving if it fits into your calories, but once you realise you could instead have something much more filling, you find your eating habits changing. The NHS has a calorie calculator to say how many calories you need to be eating a day and a 12 week weight loss plan to get you started. Whatever you choose, good luck xx
All diets work. The problem with them is that you go on a diet, get where, or close to where you aim for and then come off the diet. The trick is to find a way of eating that suits you and becomes your way of eating. For me that is lowish carb, moderate protein and higher full and good fats. I started doing it a few years ago, lost a couple of stones and have maintained relatively easily Ever since and my tastes have changed over time which makes it even easier.
Has your doctor suggested that you change your diet/exercise routine the last time you had an appointment? Not all diets work for everyone. Please talk to the doctor before you change anything to be on the safe side of things.
Today I will have a fantastic salad for lunch -beetroot, spinach, spring onions, mixed lettuce, 2 small potatoes, spoonful of hummus, spoonful of fruit, nut and celery, a few small tomatoes, along with a couple of thin slices of beef,
Tomorrow I will eat fish, Thursday a vegetarian meal, probably falafels and salad. I am 75 and my weight is fairly stable as I make a point of getting in about 10.000 steps a day. On a good day about 15000 is possible.
So energy in more or less balances energy out. If you get a something like a fitbit it will show you how much energy (calories) you have used.
Try not eating much bread, very few cakes and a maximum of 2 biscuits a day. If you can avoid sugar it will be a great step forward. Get an expensive weighing machine (about £30) from weight watchers or similar, that will show you your BMI and your total fat % to establish a starting point.
Bear in mind that a pound on you hips produces a pile driver effect on your knees equivalent to about 4 pounds - a moment on your lips, a lifetime on your hips , etc, and knackered knees as well.
At 60 you will have to start making choices. How long do you want to live?
Hello 60andstillgoing , firstly welcome to the group, you have been dieting all your life and it doesn't work. The reason that it hasn't work is you need to change your relationship with food and try and make the healthiest choices and have sufficient exercise to keep fit.
Our minds are tricky as if we decide we need to eat less we end up thinking about food more and this is a downward spiral. And many of us have put on weight during lockdown so you're not alone on that one.
My advice is make the healthiest choices that you can so its enjoyable and gradually omit the empty calories and swap sweets for a bag of grapes, here's a post with advice on eating mindfully please see:

And I'd take it one meal and one day at a time eating better all the time and coupled with exercise you will reach your goal and we will cheer you on.
We cater for all diets and dietary needs on here so your'e in great company with us.
Good luck and stay safe now. 🌈🌞

Good luck and welcome x
Have you tried a weekly meal plan -which will feed into your shopping plan - which will then interact with your exercise plan and get you into a virtuous circle where you can ask yourself "Do I want to eat this or I am I just craving sugar"?
The old saying is "If you fail to plan - you plan to fail". Calories in have match calories out, there is no way around it, no wonderful plans, no 'new wonder diets'. It is just very hard to consistently not eat biscuits, or cakes, or bread, or to up your exercise levels,
