Hey,
What exactly is a wildlife market? It may seem like a stupid question, but I’ve never seen one or heard of one going on.
Hi Gem
I've just edited my post, I hadn't realised that my computer changed it to wildlife market instead of wild animal market. I'm glad you've replied as I wouldn't have realised so thank you.
Hi, I agree with you, these wild markets or wet markets called in China are the source of these Corona viruses. China operates these markets on industrial scale hence China being the Source of SARS and now Covid-19. No wonder Epidemiologists predicted that next epidemic is going to start from China. This Pandemic is no surprise it was waiting to happen.
Thank you and yes they are the source and until something is done about it they will continue, it shouldn't be happening and it angers me, how many lives are being lost, not only to the illness but also to people's mental health. I've read in the news today that a young nurse and young woman have both committed suicide because of this. It's very sad.
These are heart-wrenching stories and there are dire consequences of this pandemic in terms of economic and human lives . Already leaders are talking about “we cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself “
It means putting a price on human life.
Very sad
They really are and the unfortunate and sad thing is it could have been avoided. The cost of human lives is awful and of course economically, the Government can't give money to everyone, it wouldn't be possible and I wish some would stop the politics and let the Prime Minister just do the best he can.
Awful and sad times.
Most wet markets are not wildlife markets, and confusing the two is dangerous.
"Wet markets" are what China calls its fresh food markets where small stalls sell fresh vegetables, fishmongers sell seafood, and butchers sell meat. These markets are not run on an "industrial scale". They are the traditional daily market for millions of Chinese people who, despite the growth of supermarkets, prefer the personal service and quality of goods on offer. You'll even find these kind of markets all over the world.
Wild animal markets are something else. They are places where live exotic animals are available. Eating exotic animals isn't exclusive to the Chinese. The idea that eating exotic animals confers wealth and status on the diner can be found in many cultures. It is not that belief that is the problem; the real problem is a lack of a regulated system to monitor the sale of these animals. Banning wild animal markets will only push the trade underground and will become even less regulated.
Bats are protected in this country. When bats invade your roof space you can't destroy them or hinder them in any way or block up their entrance to the loft. This virus can be transmitted via Bat blood, Bat droppings and Bat saliva. A dead bat was discovered in Hampshire last year and found to be carrying rabies. I believe that the law should allow bats to be destroyed when they inhabit domestic dwellings for the health of the occupants.
Yes I know bats are protected in this country but I agree that bats should be destroyed when inhabiting dwellings.
