Eating liver and feces

Hi

Has anyone ever ate liver (cow liver especially)?

If so, have you had feces that was dark brown to black?

I was told that because of the iron in the liver, it may change our feces color.

Thank you all in advance.

For a minute there I thought this was some esoteric new fad recipe. I'm so glad it wasn't.

😱😂😂😂 that thought though

As a child we frequently ate liver, kidneys and heart as they were cheap at the local butchers, and I really like them. As an adult, I rarely get to eat them, as my husband doesn’t like offal, although I often choose them (used to choose them ☹️) in restaurants.

In answer to your question, no, never.

Hi Barakbet

I also used to have liver and onions as a child, although I didn't know what kind of liver it was - and I didn't notice any issues with the colour of faeces changing. :-)

Zest :-)

I dont eat meat and can’t comment on the liver you ate, but if the black faeces happens again I would contact your dr as can be a sign of bleeding. Unless you are on iron tablets and this is normal for you.

Hey, thanks for commenting

Happened only once.

I agree with Fran182716 , Barakbet . Can you please call your doctor and schedule an appointment dealing with this issue? You may have to be tested for other issues (kidney, different types of deficiencies, etc.). Please also let us know what you find out soon. :-)

Yes, when we had our first baby in 1972 they gave me iron tablets, everyone had them, they had that effect. When we had our third baby in 1978 they did blood tests to check your iron levels and I didn't need them. I think liver is now a banned food when your pregnant, how things change.

If it’s a one-off after eating the liver I wouldn’t worry. I’ve scared myself numerous times with beetroot! BUT if you have another bout of darkened faeces after eating your normal diet (or not using iron tablets which have a similar effect) I would seek medical advice.

Happened only once after eating the liver🙂

That’s good. Keep an eye on things for your next couple of motions just to make sure. You could make it into an experiment😀. Eat some sweet corn and see how long before the kernels appear in the toilet bowl. That would show how quickly your digestive system works and give you a timing on the eat liver-to-end result of your original post

Yes, that is correct, the iron can turn your faeces black, just in the same way as taking iron tablets.

Cheers, Midori

I love liver but only eat lambs, my mother would never buy any other only lambs liver and kidneys. Don’t know why she wouldn’t buy any other though. I have just followed her.
