Corona Virus WHO update and new Corona Virus Topic

Good morning everyone,

As the Corona Virus is spreading with lots of speculation here's some of the latest advice on how to stay safe and protect ourselves and each other from this virus.

It is very interesting that the COVID19 virus is air borne and it looks like the epidemic on cruise liners could be down to the air conditioner.

I opened a bar of chocolate and had just washed my hands and I thought should I wash them again before I handle the chocolate after handling the wrapper.

The other problem I have is I like keeping my hands clean anyway and find that with more washing they are drying out so I'm having to use a hand cream.

Here's the World Health Organisations advice:

who.int/emergencies/disease...

Here's what the FSA of Ireland advice to food workers and the handling money is interesting and well worth noting:

fsai.ie/faq/coronavirus.html

Food workers must wash hands:

before starting work

before handling cooked or ready-to-eat food

after handling or preparing raw food

after handling waste

after cleaning duties

after using the toilet

after blowing nose, sneezing or coughing

after eating drinking or smoking

after handling money

So stay safe folks and eat a healthy diet so we are as strong as possible for any infections.

And please remember that panic buying is not in anyones best interest.

This is a brilliant post Jerry, thank you. Must admit like you my hands are drying out. When shopping yesterday I noticed that most of the pasta isle was empty, there is mixed messages , I am out in town today, going for a meal with a friend, but even now, the car park is almost empty

Thank you Debs, we have to be mindful as so far the news does not match my shopping experiences in a small town, my supermarket has sold out of hand gels hand washing soap and Veg choc bars I think they were waiting for me to finish to the box LOL.

Enjoy your meal and I think this has made us rethink normal everyday things as we do not know what to expect so it's the uncertainty that makes us feel uneasy.

Hi Hidden

Thank you Zest we need to be mindful to protect ourselves. 😊

I have stage 3 CKD so I am avoiding spaces where I can not stay far enough away from people. The fact you say it is airborne is not really something they are saying on the media. That makes it a very scary virus. I am a nurse and I have been following the CDC and I have suspected it was at least possibly airborne. I not only wash my hands even more than before but I am also disinfecting my home every day after everyone comes home from daily outings. I carry Lysol hand sanitizer and or alcohol in my car and purse. I alternate between bleach alocohol and lysol for sanitizing. I have hydrogen peroxide on hand too but it is being saved for when all the other stuff is sold out. Lysol is already pretty much gone where I live despite the fact it is the most inconvenient way to sanitize in my opinion. I see my kidney doctor in ten days and I will discuss my concerns further with him. We have active cases in FL so I am super nervous and on guard.

Hello HealthBuddyMelissa it sounds like you are well prepared and you're a front line person so good for you as we do seem to take health workers for granted.

I've had pneumonia and that left me with a scrtached lung so it wouldnt do me a lot of good either.

I bet your are feeling nervous and definately being mindful so good luck and stay safe.

Jerry 😊

I had a food hygiene certificates and really those points for washing hands are a bare minimum of what I'd expect anyone working with food to do, regardless of the current virus situation.

We were shopping in a different supermarket from normal today, and I didn't notice too many low shelves. Just the soap at the mo.

We do have a decent supply of food if we are quarantined though - you'll know yourself that a coeliac tends to have about a dozen types of flour, so between those and the Costco stock up we did a few weeks ago, we have loads of food!

in reply to Cooper27

I agree that It is bare minimum hygeine I just thought the reminder about handling money was good as we take so many every day actions for granted like buy something and then eating it without thinking of germs or virus' on our money.

As for keeping a good stock becomes a way of life for gluten free-ers as we are used to shops running out and worse being discontinued so I feel the same no need to over buy.

So I'm glad that you're well stocked up. 😊

I appreciate the information regarding the virus. But I’ve decided to NOT read or watch anymore about this. No One really knows what the truth is, even the scientist??? This is a website where we suffer for Anxiety So writing about this on this site is only going to add to our anxiety. If I’m going to get it Im going to get it I’m doing the common sense things wash hands, don’t touch my face and stay away from sick people.

in reply to Want2BHappy3

But you are reading it Want2BHappy3 this is very topical and everyone is concerned so we want to make sure mebers are given the correct advice in an unbiased manner.

HE is a healthy eating forum and not all of us suffer from anxiety and we want to encourage everyone to stay safe and look out for one another. COVID19 is very topical at the moment so we are not in denial or making false claims or assumptions we just want to keep things in perspective.

Thank you.

Jerry.

Actually I didn’t, the virus was mentioned in the title, so I bypassed It and went straight to reply knowing that’s what they were going to write about.

And also panic buying can be selfish.

I don’t quite know what to think about Coronavirus.

I’m not saying that it’s not real cos it is but I don’t follow all the hype like washing your hands thoroughly and so on.

I’m just living like I usually would at the moment.

The way I see it, when people are driven to panic buying and constantly washing their hands that is a sure-fire sign that the elite and controlling the population.

Money brings power and power brings control.

I will post on here anything new I learn about it. Like you say we have to support each other.

Interestingly and not really suprising is air pollution and flu go hand in hand, I guess the pollution makes our lungs less efficient and have to work harder.
