β€’5 Replies

Hi everyone,

This EU survey shows how eating one protion of fruit like 1 apple and a good portion of veg (total200g) lowers stroke risk by 13% and an extra 10g of fibre reduces it to 23%. Interestingly 2 slices of wholemeal bread contain 6/6g of fibre, ots whole wheat fruits like pears berries melon vegetables like brocili carrots potatoes in the skin peas and pulses are all very good sources of fibre.

Here's the article please see:

I think this like everything shows that we literally are what we eat...and we need to look at the nutrional value and footprint of what we eat.

We really are what we eat Jerry.

I think they need to promote the programme that was on a few weeks ago, Cowspiracy as it showed the awful practices in America re cattle and how they were kept etc but also showed the organic farmer here who was making an excellent profit. He used the natural food chain to keep the pests at bay i.e. the insects are the pests. He also used natural wood clippings for fertiliser. He had a very successful business.

Bring on the fruit, veg, beans and pulses. πŸ˜‹

πŸ‘thanks Jerry for the post. It is really Great !

(1) Many Such studies elsewhere have also indicated similar cardiovascular benefits.

(2) In fact Fruits and vegetables are also a part of DASH diet as recommended allover the world (DASH : Diatary approach to stop Hypertension)

(3) Fruits, Vegetables and pulses are also a part of the well researched FODMAP diet ( FODMAP is Fermentable Olligo, Di , Mono saccharides And Polyols )

The FODMAP is a short chain Carbs which is poorly absorbed in small intestine, but serves as Food for the microbiota...Each Fruit/ vegetable group has some FODMAP with specific benefits for the Gut and overall human health...

(4)Unless, someone has severe IBS or some other issue due to which he/ she can not tolerate fruits/ vegetables , it is strongly recommended that one should eat FODMAP rich diet...

One can understand its benefits only after one practices the FODMAP diet....
