Arts and crafts up cycled Christmas tree πŸŽ„

β€’17 Replies

Hi everyone,

I have a Christmas tree in a pot and bring that in put some vintage lights on it and then put it outside again before the needles dry out.

This morning I bought this as the shop owners partner makes bits and bobs with old horse shoes and being an old forest mining town horse shoes are in abundance as they are seen as good luck symbols.

They are moving premises and didn't want to take the bulky items so this was Β£20 and there's 19 horseshoes, when I first moved here I bought a door knocker made with 2 horse shoes welded together on a hinge and thats loud!

It might be wet and windy outside but it's roasty toasty inside...😊

Hi Hidden

Your festive purchase looks great, and lovely that it's roasty toasty inside.

Zest :-)

in reply to Zest

Thanks Zest it's different and I'll probably take the decorations off and put it in the garden after Christmas. It was a shop display and the owner asked if I was daft enough to buy it...πŸ˜€

What a fantastic way to use old horse shoes and your fire looks lovely and toasty. :)

I agree Alicia, I bought a horse shoe door knocker and really like that. This tree is unusual and I'm not keen on the baubles or the star. So it's destined to be outside as it'll look nicer as it weathers. 😊

I really like horseshoes used as door knockers. The tree would be very goid outside.πŸ˜€

Love the sound of your 2 horseshoe door knocker, unusual I've never seen one. My Christmas tree will be cut branches from the huge tree in my garden arranged in a hollowed out log in time for Christmas Eve, no baubles, just small food treats wrapped up and origami. It certainly looks toasty warm at yours there, lovely idea to put your tree outside.

I love my horseshoe door knocker and this was an impulse buy as they are moving and the price was greatly reduced as a lot of work went into making the tree, cleaning the shoes up welding them and painting them so Β£20 for art work made with 20 horseshoes and without the baubles it will be wonderful outside.

I don't like the Christmas tree trade with cut trees being dumped unceremoniously in January so your home made tree with branches sounds perfect. πŸŽ„

What a fantastic idea. As horse lover and owner, environmentalist and lover of re/up cycling, this ticks every box for me!

Thank you adhdnaturally and good for you I'm impressed that you are a horse lover owner.

They make kitchen roll holders bottle holders and my favourite the door knocker.

I love the horse shoe Christmas tree. Very creative πŸ˜„

We have an ancient articial Christmas tree that we bring out every year. It's about thirty years old now but just keeps going on and on. It smells of Christmas and is infused with many happy memories ☺️

It will probably be the only one we ever use as it shows no sign of wearing out. Plus, I've never been able to bring myself to buy a live tree and put it inside the house and watch it slowly die.

Hey thanks MTCee , your tree sounds charming. I have some vintage Christmas lights that were bought from Woolworths in the 1950's and grow real Christmas trees in pots and when they're to big plant them out. I tend to bring them in on Christmas Eve and put them out after 3 days so I liked the idea of this one.
