Hi All
I've printed off a new list of fruit and vegetables that you don't necessarily need to buy organic. The list also includes the fruit and vegetables they recommend you do buy organic.

Hi Alicia, this is very interesting so thanks for this, the ones on the high pesticide list is very useful as they are some of my favourite fruit and veggies. So organic or go without with those, so thanks. ๐
It certainly is Jerry. I always buy organic tomatoes, beetroot, potatoes, carrots, bananas (when I can get them) and cucumber. I didn't know about potatoes needing to be organic until a couple of months ago or so.
Thanks so much Alicia, this list is very helpful.
Zest
You are welcome Zest, it certainly is useful๐
I clicked on the link and a long 'privacy' warning page appeared.
Can you list the recommended organic fruits/veg, and the less sensitive ones?
Thanks.
Yes of course. I'll post them some time tomorrow as I'm replying using my mobile at present and can't copy and paste easily.
Cheers.
Organic is costly, and many say that the difference is in the price, not in the quality.
But I think in same cases organic does make a difference.
I've just tried the link and me it works for me.๐
Hi Elisabeth3
Totally agree, I buy organic where I need to and non organic where it's deemed as safe.
I've copied and pasted the link again, please let me know if it works, if it doesn't I will copy and paste the list.

I'm just going to try the link myself and will let you know if it works.
Alicia
Thanks. I could open the link. ๐๐
The organic does not say how much it is better than the conventional. Or does it? I am not always bothered to read the long story on the label.
Glad you could open the link.
I have noticed that the flavour of the organic is much nicer, particularly sweeter when it comes to beetroot and carrots.๐
I like to buy organic as much as I can as it's not sprayed with pesticides.
Bought organic spinach yesterday. ๐๐
I will try to buy more organic, too. Thanks.
I'm pretty sure it'll taste much better, I certainly find that organic does.
Enjoy
"The organic does not say how much it is better than the conventional. Or does it? I am not always bothered to read the long story on the label "
its not quantifiable in the way you seem be asking for.Surely eating something without harmful chemicals used to grow it is better than something with .These are mainly fruit and vegetables so there isnt a long story on any label
I always look at organic being the fruit or vegetable that either has a harmful substance sprayed on it or not. I can see buy grapes for example where they would be more harmful if not organic as the fruit doesn't have a skin as such.
All in all I buy organic as and where I can.
but it's not just what's sprayed on the fruit and vegetables - root vegetables for example can absorb chemicals that have been added to the soil
Sorry I should have said, I buy organic potatoes. Where I shop they don't have organic sweet potatoes, that tends to be the only other root vegetable that I eat.
I am sure it's quantifiable. The amount of baddies in the produce.
well the presence of baddies maybe but my point was it's the absence of baddies that makes organic worth buying and you asked how MUCH better is organic which is difficult to quantify surely ?
Quite ๐คจ
I could open the link.
The article lists the clean 15 in the US. How does it apply to the UK?
Glad you could open the link. The only difference I'm aware of is sweetcorn grown in the US should be organic. Sorry but don't know about the rest.
Thanks. Still an indication for anyone I think.
Yes agree
As why a pesticide is needed has to do with the plant itself, too.
If I grew my own I'd use natural alternatives
That's very good. Then you know what you eat.
Slugs are a problem now, they eat up the young crops, vegetables, etc.
Have you ever grown anything?
You certainly do. My mum used to grow her own and used beer, the slugs would go in it and drown.
Thanks. Where do you place the beer?
I heard of egg shell around the plants. I tried it but I did not succeed.
My mum used to put it in some kind of pot, obviously with no holes, and sink it into the ground.
