I am wondering if there are any seniors that visit this site and if they have any suggestions for cooking for one person. I have a terrible time cooking for myself.

Do you have a freezer? You could cook meals from recipes that are often for 2 people and then freeze a portion. After a week you’ll have 7 frozen dinners that you can just defrost and reheat! I think things like different soups and pasta sauces would lend themselves to this sort of cooking. But don’t forget, loads of foods can be frozen whether they’re cooked or not so if you’re having to buy a bag of something and there’s too much for you in one meal, you might be able to put the unused food in the freezer. They do say that frozen vegetables are just as good for you as fresh although the taste and texture may not be so great! That could be a good option when out shopping and give you a better variety as you just take what you need from the bag.

I’m assuming you’ve googled “cooking for one” or “recipe ideas for one.”

I think I’ve seen a variety of cookbooks aimed at single people in the U.K. so maybe you could look on Amazon for inspiration and buy a couple of books. The books might also give guidance on planning, shopping etc for one person.

Thank you. I checked this out. Good ideas.

Hi whatgoingon , cooking for one is down to your attitude to cooking for yourself in my opinion and the secret is to cook your favourite foods and meals so you are not compromised by others, likes and dislikes.

I cook for me and cook plenty like the others and I freeze food and cook MY favourite things. I think that buying good quality frozen vegetables means that we can cook a small portion of our favourite veggies with no waste.

I love the smell of baking and cooking so to me its win win as I eat what I want and when I want.

So good luck and please remember that YOU are worth making an effort for.

Jerry. 😊
