healthy eating interested in raw eating
I am a Type 2 detected 2 years back
At diagnosis Hba1c was 7.2
Its was 4.8 last year Sept'16 & 4.9 this year last month Oct'17
I follow low carb ketogenic diet
Easy for those having meat & other non vegetarian foods.
I am an eggitarian with lots of cooked veggies
Lots of good fats like Butter, Ghee, Coconot oil, olive oil etc.
Net carb around 30 to 40 gms each day ..
I thrive on whole eggs every day .. as much as 4 to 6 per day.
I have now stopped even Metformin which i used to take .
Find what suits you best.
Wishing a good health ahead...
I would be careful of mayo.. as some are now prepared with Soy oil..
Need to check the contents.
I would also be a bit careful about raw eating. I prefer to cook it or at least sauteed it lightly.
Please take a look at the articles in this post: healthunlocked.com/healthye...
There's links to a Guardian article on curing diabetes type 2 with diet, as well as links to Michael Mosley's, & Chris Kresser's websites. The latter has some excellent information available, with longer e-books if you subscribe to his emails. I find them informative.
I follow the high-carb whole-food plant-based thesis on life, which just happens to be backed by science. Eg it is the ONLY diet proven to not just halt but reverse atherosclerosis, and that's in peer-reviewed research. On my own body I have seen and felt its benefits accumulating daily, with no downsides except for the risk of being healthier each and every day. Benefits include long term protection against many cancers, heart problems, high-blood pressure, diabetes, dementia as well as my own illness - arthritis.
As for raw food, a good amount of raw food each day is important. For instance I can hardly let a day go by without munching on some broccoli. Munching on broccoli is great because not only are we looking at one of nature's superfoods but eating it raw gets the saliva going which helps ensure a great digestive system.
I don't think that the nutrients lost in cooking are an onerous burden. What is more important is to get sufficient calories to sustain your body. When you do that on a high-carb diet then there is an associated guarantee that all your nutrient needs are met. To get an idea of what calorie you are taking in I recommend cronometer.com/ which is a free website where you can enter the ingredients in a meal and it can tell you where you are on all the nutrients. It can also be tuned to know about your body and exercise.
Oh, and a plant-based diet has the added benefits of zero cruelty to animals and the out and out best sustainable route on all ecological issues such as global warming.
It is suggested that a lack of chromium may play a role in controlling blood sugar levels. Maybe you need to supplement with Chromium GTF? See healthscams.org.uk/diabetes...
Also research suggests gut bacteria plays a role in controlling blood sugar. Your change in diet may have changed your gut bacteria without you realising it. If you want to influence it more directly then take live fermented foods such as Kefir or Sauerkraut. From my understanding refined carbs, processed foods and a lack of vegetables may have a negative effect on your gut bacteria and thus your overall health. I was first alerted to this from the excellent BBC series “Trust Me I Am A Doctor” bbc.co.uk/programmes/articl...
